Hi Folks A quick hello and loud shout for help please..
I have a 2000 H100s dlx which is 250 miles short of the 100,000 marker.
Over the last few days Ive had the following elec problem which began, maybe coincidentally, with me leaving the key turned in the ignition to charge up my mobile phone....
Turn the key No glowplug sign illuminates
repeat several times
turn key, pause, glowplug sign comes on and straight off (2 nice postive clunks from the relay) but engine wont start although it turns over beautifully, just doesnt 'catch'
I wait
I wait
eventually turn key glowplug sign ON, wait for off, then will start OK.
When its running, it runs beautifully, no problems with that.
I called the AA yesterday (waited 2 hours) and he didnt even lift the seat, just said it might be the immobiliser (I didnt know I had one).
I dont understand engines too much, could I have burnt something out when i left the ignition on? (was only for 30 mins max)
Can I bypass the immobiliser?
Any ideas will be greatly accepted, the van is worth £0 so I cant warrant too much investigative work at the local garage.
Thanks alot
Bunker

hiya Bunker. Engines aren`t my forte, but I can`t see how charging your phone could cause this. If anything, I`d say get some new glowplugs, ( I bet you can`t remember when you last changed them!)Your relays seem to be working fine so prob not them.. I`m not at all sure there is an immobiliser. Anyone else got any ideas? Just found this Starting prob

Thanks for that, I have never changed the plugs and wouldnt know where to start - Ill have a look and Im sure Ill be able to identify them.
What is this bus bar mod? anyone with any pics?
Also, it seems a set of plugs is £48 from 'the shop' on the Delica forum or £10.30 + VAT from Andrew Pages - surely is this £10.30 each (ie x 4) - or its a no brainer? Should I just change them all anyway?
Thank you again

Hi Bunker. I reckon replace all 4, then you can be sure.Seems to me the plus VAT evens the prices up. The busbar is a bar that connects all the glowplugs together, so the charge gets to all of them equally. They then "glow" or heat up.The mod is about compensating for a flaw in the way the bar directs most of the charge to only the first glowplug. so the mod is to drill a hole in the bar between plugs 1 and 2 and attach the feed from the relay there. Some replace the bar with a copper one too. See here. Glowplug busbar mod to improve starting.i`m not sure you`ll need to do this, unless you have extreme weather conditions down in Newbury! I didn`t say welcome to the forum, so i`ll do it now. Welcome, always nice to see another H100 user :00000732: p.s; out of interest do you use the van for work or pleasure? Mines mainly for camping in, though I use it about town too.

Hi, Thanks very much for the advice and welcome, it all seems clear now.
i use the van for work, Im a carpenter. Sadly the poor thing has seen better days with a stoved in side door and ill fitting rear door. The fuel guage has recently packed up completely, reverse lights dont work or the cab light, oh and the horn packed up last week!. Before I had it, it had taken a front end bash which causes a leak somewhere under or around the windscreen, this fills the fuse box with water, never a good thing.
Now Ive found you guys maybe Ill be able to sort them out one by one as the engine and running gear is great - drives beautifully.
Thanks again, Il order off the shop.
Bunker

I cant see what to look for, not sure where the relay is! I rang a hyundai dealer and gave him my chassis number, he told me the plugs used to be part number:
3671042020
but are now:
3671042060
but I cant cross referance this in the shop - any ideas?
Thanks
and about the fusebox - there is a visible waterline!

Hoorah!
All sorted!
I changed the plugs - never touched a car/ van engine in my life but very easy. Started first time until I stopped further up the road and it wouldnt start atall!
Good old AA arrived and an amazing young man tried everything, he was brilliant.
In the end he found the problem, it was the EDC relay (HMC 39160-42110) , he prized the top off and it was an absolute blur of corrosion (I promise to photo it for ya!). He cleaned it up a bit and got it working again but no probs since!
Now I need to source a replacement!
Thanks again
