Anyone else notice increased valvetrain noise, especially when the engine is cold with synthetic oil? Pennzoil platinum 5w-30 in my case? I may just switch back to conventional oil.

What filter did you use? There is a TSB about engine noise when using non-OEM oil filters.

What you might be hearing is injector noise. From this vantage point it's hard to say with any certainty but I've had this occur a lot when making the switch.

Certain filters might make a difference. You could try a switch but I've not found any, from my work, that do this on your eng.

I've seen/heard different engines respond differently to different oils when it comes to noise.

Ive never used anything but OEM filters. As far as injector noise being the culprit, would you expect that to diminish after driving for a few minutes??

The injectors will make noise as long as they are spraying fuel and the engine is running.
