This is kind of an interesting story. Was looking for a used 06 Hyundai Limited Azera. Went on Edmunds and found 2 local dealers who were offering the best deal. Went to the first dealer and test drove the car. The car had roughly 15K on it. I asked them what was their best price. They told me $22,500. I took a business card and went to the next dealer. At the next dealer, I saw another Azera which was basically the same except for the color (Silver) Dealer told me he could sell me the car for 22K. Told him I would have to go outside and talk to my wife who was in the car that was parked up the street. While in the parked car, I called the other dealership and asked them if they could beat the price. They told me "Yes." Went back to the dealer and told him he either had to lower the price or we would walk. He lowered it to $21,500. Once again I went outside and called the other dealership up. Once again they told me they could beat the deal. Went in again and told the salesman we didn't think we could afford it and we were going to leave (With the intentions of buying the other Azera). While getting ready to walk out the door, he once again made an offer to me, (Can you afford this amount a month?- statement) that ended up selling the car for $19,200. Told him that sounded great however, I would have to talk to my wife once again. Once again went outside, and called the other dealership. This time they told me they could not beat the deal. So went back in and bought the car for $19,200. Could I do this at a Honda dealership? Probably not. Truthfully, I think it worked out the best for all of us. We were certainly happy, and the dealership appeared happy to have moved the car-They had many Hyundai Azera's.

Jeeeeezzzz.... 19k. good going, good for you.
<IMHO>
I hate to say it, but being something of a car "collector" (terminology VERY loosely applied) I'm planning to just keep our Azeras for several decades... even though we'll only put 2k or 3k per year on them... the resale value isn't worth considering. If you drove it off the lot, you HAVE to hang on to it for a decade and have the slushbox or timing components worked on in 7 or 8 years. The only way it'll make itself worth its while for you. Get the good techs at Hyundai to do something like I'm doing for my XJR right now, whenever it becomes necessary... save yourself $2000 of labor in 2015. (By then it'll be $5000 of labor of course.)
I am practically beside myself with anticipation of the Genesis but I won't buy one unless we can afford it in addition to the Azeras. It'll go in the stable and take its tiny share of the 5k miles/yr I put on our cars... but when the timing chain starts to rattle or the transmission starts to slip, you better believe I'm going to make good on the warranty.
</IMHO>

QUOTE(boostedfc3s @ Mar 20 2008, 11:07 PM) Man, I almost bought a used Vanden Plas Super V8 instead of the azera. Probably glad I didnt.
< :offtopic: > I'd LOVE to have a Super V8 but only '05 or later. With the 4.0L supercharged AJ-V8 ('98-'03), just wait until the upper timing chain tensioners go, the plastic slippers on the curved chain guides come loose and can get lodge in a camshaft sprocket, and the plastic impeller on the OEM water pump starts shedding blades that then go back and get lodged in the block water channels... If you were thinking about '98 - '00, add to that the bright prospect of the cylinder walls flaking & scoring inside the Nikasil-lined block... loss of compression. I'll stick to my mid-'90s XJs with the I6 until I can afford an '05 (should only be another 6 or 8 years!) with that spectacular 4.2L V8. Of course, even with a great, bullet-proof motor like this 4.0L I6, you can't prevent it from being hit by a tank shell (prior owner abuses & neglect). Still relatively minor problems relative to the early Ford-Jag 4.0L V8s. The 4.2 apparently has NO recognized design flaws so far. </ :offtopic: > :beer:

For a 1-year-old (and change, maybe...) car, with average mileage. no other problems or special circumstances, that is getting great reliability reviews and turning out dozens of happy and satisfied owners all over every forum, with few complaints and no SIGNIFICANT problems at all, that carries new MSRP somewhere north of $27000 depending upon trim, to pay 19000 and save somewhere between 30% and 38% off the sticker price... I'm not sayin'. :innocent:

QUOTE(GroverSmith @ May 6 2008, 08:26 PM) I belive you can do much better, 2007 Azera has a $3000.00 rebate I just bought one the 24 April @007 Azera SE at All Star motors Hyudai for 20,000.00 and no its not used had 100 miles on it when I bought it and 50 miles of those I put on it test driving. $3000. Hyundai rebate and a dealer $2000. in centive. 3.8 V6 custom rims. A nice car. :banana:
That sounds about right. An SE's sticker price is what, about 25k, so your negotiated deal was about -5000 off MSRP. Both of our Limited / Ultimates sticker price was right at $31k and our purchase price for both was $25.5k, -$5.5k. I'm not sure there's any wiggle room for dealers to go any lower than that. Of course, now they have $3000 MFR's rebate on '07 Azera, whereas I believe it was $2000 when we bought ours. Maybe they could bump down another $1k on an '07 these days...

Bought an 08 Azera LTD ULT NAV BLK AND TAN ON 4/18/08. Clean deal no finance sticker was 32515 paid 25750 cash dealer added etching (199.00 ripoff but the car had it it was transferred from another dealer) refused the appearance package (599.00) and the dealer deleted it despite the fact it was "on the car" (wax and no gloss armor all!).Hyundai provides about 4K in incentives and it seems the dealer maybe has 2K more to deal. buy your floor mats mud flaps window deflector, sunroof deflector trunk organizer, billet grille online on ebay or from the rome dealer website Also added the cool trunk trim on ebay and the stainless pillars, took off the azera badging and replaced it with genesis added dash trim inside and the led backcenter light and brakelight. considering electric lambo doors for 3K. Only use "klasse" car products on this black finish. Immediately drain and fill your new car with Mobil One and always change it at 5K also drain and fill tranny and coolant at 5K and every 10K after that and you will get 300K miles from this car best car under 25K ever made by anyone anywhere, clearly better than MB C and E class, all Nissans and all comparable US cars except maybe new malibu Rides like a "Soft" Audi 2.5K in suspension upgrades fixes that which I'll do when this suspension hits 30 K I plan on putting 300K on this car. just Sold my 88 Corvete with 467, 000 miles all me no major components replaced car worked like it had 60 K on it Go Mobil One!!!

Well done man! That's some serious lasting power for any car. But I think the point is salient, that even with little more than routine maintenance for the life of the car, a proactive approach to any needed repairs when it gets a little longer in the tooth, and MAYBE avoiding frequent weekends at VIR with your car, ALMOST any modern car will go for 200K+ without any major work. Makes it worthwhile to spend a little more on a fancier new car if you're going to get 20 years / 200,000+ miles on it, when you look at how cheap it is to own a car, even a premium car, over 20+ years, compared to the cost of buying a new car every few years, paying for all of the depreciation, then doing it again (and again and again). Over a 20-year service life, it would cost a lifetime average of about $3500/yr to buy, own and maintain a Mercedes E550. Whereas buying a new Azera every 2 years would cost you about $5000/yr (assuming you got an 'average' deal on a new Azera each time, and at current prices, not accounting for inflation). And of course, if you can make an Azera a 20-year car (and a nice 20-year car at that!) your average real cost to own & maintain it would be about $1700/yr.
