My first post on this forum - Hello to everyone! Not new to these types of forums but constantly amazed at the amount of valuable info.

My sons 1996 Accent is throwing CEL codes P0141 & P0137, found the downstream sensor corroded and housing cracked and separating just below where the wires go into the housing. Looks like this may be the problem. Water likely got into it.

The sensor is surrounded on the bottom and partial sides by a heat shield. Would appreciate advice from someone on the process and tool used to best success in getting the old sensor out.

Would also appreciate process for resetting CEL. is it as simple as disconnecting the bat ground?

Many thanks in advance.

Dear kassel,

Can't you access from the end instead of the side or bottom. Get this tool:

http://www.arizonatools.com/tools/oxygen-s...gn=productfeeds

To reset the CEL, disconnect the battery ground cable, turn the ignition to ON for 10 seconds, turn to off, reconnect the battery ground cable.

Byron, yes, there is room on the end to fit the socket. I was thinking there was likely a tool that allowed the wires to pass through but hadn't looked it up yet.

Except for the muscle it's going to take to break it free, looks like this will work.

Thanks much for the reply.

Soak it with rust buster and heat it. You may have to remove the exhaust to get leverage. Even at that the threads may strip out and need to be renewed. Good luck. May want to farm this one out.
