 Battery Warning Light Coming On With Bad Smell

Hello,

I have a 2002 hyundai sonata.
The battery warning light has come on in the dashboard with a bad smell.
I am taking it to the mechanic... can somebody advise what the problem could be.
Any help appreciated. Thanks

Dear dutta,

The 'battery warning light' is really a charging system warning light. The bad smell you have on a 2002 Sonata is likely a failing alternator. Does it smell like electrical arcing smell?

You can have your alternator tested in the car for FREE at Autozone. Autozone is also much cheaper than the dealer to get a remanufactured alternator.
