Hello , My name is cricket . I am a 39 year old woman . I need to replace my radio on my hyundai elantra 1996 but I can not figure out how to remove the dashboard . Does anyone know how please help . Please e-mail me @ cricketh32725@yahoo.com . Oh please .

:) HI,

I'm assuming that your car is the organic round Elantra (J3 body style).

First you have to remove the gearstick boot and console. On manual vehicles this is held in place by spring clips. Remove the gearknob and carefully lift the console and boot straight up. It may require some judicious force.

Once you have done that you will see a securing screw at the base of the dash console. Remove it.

The other screw, I think, you'll find behind the dimmer control to the right(?) of your console. It is the roll switch that controls the brightness of the dashboard lighting. Carefully prise that from the console and the second locating screw will be revealed. Remove it.

Again apply judicious force and pull the console from the dash being careful to unplug all wires,leads and air conditioning tubes and note their position to aid replacement.

If you still are challenged, pop down to your dealer and he will give your a copy of the appropriate page in the manual.
