So, my stock drivers side headlamp burnt out about 3 months ago. I wanted to replace both lamps with brighter ones so I bought a pair of Silvania Silverstars. last week the drivers side headlamp went out again. Has anybody else had this problem with just the one side burning out? I've checked the fuses and they're fine.

Deart Crick3t,

No, have not had a new headlight burn out in just a few weeks time. Several things to look for:

How did the bulb fail? did the filament just burn out? I ask because you need to be very careful with skin oils on the bulb. You can tell a bulb that had skin oil on it resulting in failure because the bulb will melt and the glass will form a expanded bubble in that area.

Any other light failures happening? Have you noticed any unusual brightening of the dash lights and headlights as you are driving? this could be a interment voltage regulator fault.

Do you have any water droplets inside the lense? If you do have moisture causing drops to form, water hitting the hot bulb can cause the glass to crack.

It was a broken fillament both times. There's no moisture inside the headlight enclosure. Since I bought the car about 40,000 miles ago, the climate control temperature knob light flicks on and off sometimes, usually when I'm adjusting another climate control knob.

I too am having the same issues, 2007 Sanafe that has gone through 3 sets of headlights. When looking at the burned out bulb, only the filiment is damaged, no oils or bubbles noticable. Whats the deal......

that's your problem right there.. SilverStars are horrendous for the length of time before burnout. obviously I dont own a Tibby, but i used SilverStars in my former car (Escort ZX2) and within 5 months of putting them in, they would always burn out. they have a terrible "life".

best bet is to get Phillips, GE Nighthawks (hard to find) or even the SilverStar Ultras are rated longer than the standard SilverStars... (this is assuming you dont want to upgrade to HID's)
