Bought a 2007 Sonata in Nov 2006, have 32k miles on it now and love it.

Only issue is the wife drives it most of the time :)

Im looking at getting rid of my ranger because of mpg's and inheriting a 82 mile round trip commute to work.

Kinda interested in everyones comments on the Elantra. Looks like the build price is very comparable to a scion(other car im looking at). Also appears the interior is very sharp, not unlike the sonata.

Is the $1000 of permanent, or just a deal right now. I wont be buying until early May.

Thanks for any input you guys can give me.

$1000 or low APR is over Feb.

I just picked-up my 08 Elantra today. I think I love it.

One note: The ride is super smooth, but not as solid or planted like the VW or Subaru I 've owned. It has more of a soft ride than a sport ride. I got mine with a 5spd, that actually saved me some dough, plus it's more fun.

I'd actually would like the 5spd too. The "soft" ride is what I really like about the Sonata. I know its not for some, but for a car thats hwy mostly, its exactly what I want.

Well,

After looking at a computer screen for many days and comparing prices and vehicles, I've decided on the Elantra over a Focus, Civic, Fit and Scion xD.

The Elantra seems like a mid version of the Sonata and offers tons of options for a great price along with a soft ride and nice interior.

Now I just have to wait until Late Apr/Early May.

Do dealers usually come off a bit on Elantra's? The dealer here was not to keen on discounts when we bought our Sonata in Nov 2006. Im guessing with the economy right now, they are more willing to deal than they were then.

I think the dealers will cut you a break depending on the inventory they are trying to move. I actually missed out on some 2007 left over Elantra deals because I started shopping too late. I don't think Hyundai produced an abundance of 2008 Elantras as they did with 2007s. It depends on the production cycle and what Hyundai decides to ship the dealer. My salesman told me that they already recieved a 2009 Sonata this week. If 2009 cars are rolling in this spring, then you may be in good shape on the negotiation side. With the economy today you may see more factory incentives to come. However, the price of your new Hyundai will probably start to creep up due to the weak dollar in the currency exchange.
