Hey all been told my big end bearings are on the way out, makes a nice throaty noise when under load, so got to do that now, few questions

1) what actually needs doing, crank reground?, etc

2) Could i use a crank out of a non turbo 1.5 because i no someone who has a low mileage engine that hes getting rid off

3) do hyundai have all the parts required? Please list the parts :)

4) While its out what other things could i do / replace for a semi rebuild?

5) or is there a hybrid engine i could build with my head and a different bottom end?

cheers

chris

Drives: Modified (180 b.h.p.) `95 Hyundai S-Coupe Turbo SE ....Sadly now sold & replaced with an `04 Alfa Romeo 156 2-litre Veloce! :-http://aol.photobox.co.uk/album/thumbnails.html?c_album=7089276&page=all

Hi!
The Hyundai-built (Mk.II Scoupe) Alpha I engines, unusually, have forged-steel crankshafts which are very hard-wearing & usually out-last the car!.

This means that, unless you have abused the motor; let the symptoms persist for a long time, or have run the motor with low oil / oil-pressure, all you should have to replace are the big-end bearings & ...(while you are at it)... the main bearings & oil seals.
However, while the engine is stripped-down, it would be foolish not to replace the little-end bearings & piston rings at the same time!.

The crankshaft will, in all probability, be O.K..
Good luck!
Nick. :)

This is the rocker cover off my new engine (the dirtier one - it took two cans of engine cleaner to get the inside in a usable condition :o), sprayed it red, the paint job could be abit better but it will do for now till i choose what i really want to do with it.

You have the brains to rebuild a Turbocharged engine & you didn't know that they have a postal service in the USA ?

I get the feeling summink nasty is gonna happen here ........ Don't spend massive amounts of cash on this thing ........ You can't make a silk purse outta a sows ear.

If your car needs lower end work, you should be able to get away with a sump gasket, some bearing shells, a plasti gauge kit perhaps a timing cover gasket a gallon of oil & a filter...... Quite what the **** your doing is anyone's guess :whistling:
