So how many of you guys neglect to get wheels because of the rear drum issue?

Who cares about the rear drums? Some of the models of Accents came with all 4 disc brakes, but they switched back to rear drums and front discs for the 2008 Accents. They must have done that for a reason, and as a couple reviews by the big-name websites say, there's more emphasis on front discs for braking more than the rear brakes anyway.

i dont know where you get that info from but, there's no reason why they wanna go to drums, they are not even close from being better than disc, plus pay the cost of conversion and not even from the look.

oops... well it wasn't THAT big of a name site, but here's the article: http://www.automotive.com/2008/43/hyundai/...ions/index.html

and the excerpt:
QUOTE
For 2008, the brakes were downgraded from four-wheel discs to ventilated discs in front and drum brakes in the rear. To be fair, a small, front-wheel-drive car relies more heavily on its front brakes anyway, so the change probably represents a bigger loss in bragging rights than in real-world safety. In theory, discs are better for their improved ability to dissipate heat, particularly when used repeatedly such as when hurtling down a steep mountain road.

Rear disc conversion is unecessary on our cars. There only 2 reason to perform this upgrade, heat dissapation and tunability. There are not many companies out there that make upgrades for drum setups. I.E. lighter weight parts less unprung weight, higher friction compounds etc..

Also disc brakes are MUCH MUCH easier to work on.

To be honest, if I had the money and the parts easily available, I would do the swap. I am just alot more familiar with working on rear discs than drums. But this mod will net ZERO performance gain.

I agree on the zero performance gain. I just think that cars with rims and rear drums look crappy. Discs look so much better. I shoulda got an 07.

if i do that, it will be for 3 reason.
for the look.
easier to change.
been unique.
It's not like you have to change it frequently, but it save a little of hassle.

Disc brakes will be easier to work on, but you will work on them way more often than drums. The only reason I can see to do this conversion is for aesthetics only as my '08 hatch stops on a dime.

what is the cost for parts that you got from the donor car?
i might do this as i have done in the past on other models but am very curious as to cost factors for our cars....and when you do yours take some pics....i wish i would have when i did mine we only have a few pics and they dont do much for step by step stuff
