I just bought a Hyundai Atoz for almost nothing, one of the problems being that it is missing 5th gear.

First I thought it would be linkage related, but it seems to select 5th fine, there is just nothing there - it revs freely.

I'm thinking that 5th gear is probably stripped, so I might need to pull it out + replace, or at least give it a clean up and use it as a 4-speed - I'm not going on any motorways anyway.

Wondering if anyone has heard of anything similar?

What's the part number for the gearbox?

Any recommendations? how hard to remove gearbox + engine?

Yes - fifth speed gear has gone. Fifth gear is behind the back plate on the gearbox so it can be got at after dropping the back of the box
