John Krafcik was named Vice President, Product Development and Strategic Planning at Hyundai Motor America in April 2004. Krafcik is responsible for all product planning, strategic planning, brand planning, research and pricing for Hyundai in the U.S.
Krafcik came to Hyundai from Ford Motor Company where he held various product development positions, including Chief Engineer, Truck Chassis Engineering and Chief Engineer, Large/Premium Utility Vehicles.
Krafcik holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a Master of Science degree in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Before joining Ford Motor Company, Krafcik was the first American engineer hired by the GM/Toyota joint-venture partnership NUMMI, and later became an industry consultant on lean production while at MIT.
Krafcik lives in Southern California with his wife and two children.
