Hi i need to know if the engine head of a 2000 and later hyundai accent will fit on a 97 DOHC block. i noticed the newer hyundai accents all have DOHC engines, i have not came across a SOHC. But anyhow i looked at a DOHC head from a 2001 and it looks to be the same, all that was diffrent was the intake manifold but it bolts up just like the 97 manifold i have . the engines in 2000 and up are 1.6L engines and the 95-99 are mostly 1.5L so i have a 1.5L DOHC block and was just wondering if i could use the head of a 2000 or later, i can also come across 2000 and later alot easier to. any help would be greatly appeciated. :)

See:

Just to clarify, do you have the G4EK engine block? Go check your engine identification number and reply back. The G4EK has a 75.5 mm bore and 83.5 stroke.

You want to install the cylinder head for the G4ED Alpha 1.6 liter engine. The G4ED has a 76.5 bore and 87 mm stroke.

Are you going to bore out the engine block to 76.5mm and replace the pistons? If you want the full 1.6 liter displacement, you will also have to replace the crankshaft to get the 87mm stroke.

Might as well swap out the entire 1.6 liter engine.

Byron

agree with byron, it would be far easier just to change the whole engine, tryingto do it your way will cause you a load of agravation

i see good point guys, now will the 1.6L engine bolt up to the transmission that the 1.5 had? ( even if the 1.6 could drop in; my old intake would have to bolt up to the head beacuse of the type of ECU in the car. Its not equip with the extra sensor pickup's that the newer models have on the intake to run properly.)

Bryon, I Have the G4EK DOHC block

lance,

One of our members, Rogerholdorf in Norway, is looking for a 1.6 liter DOHC cylinder head that he and I are going to modify. Do you have a lead on where to find a 1.6 liter DOHC head?

Back to your question. Will a G4ED engine block bolt to the transmission designed to mate to a G4EK block? I went searching for a diagram of the bolt pattern when I realized you did not say if you have the manual or the automatic.Let's assume that you have the manual, as do like 70% of Accent sold.

Here is the bolt pattern for the 97 Accent manual. Note the spacing and number of bolts holes in the bell housing cover

Here is the bolt pattern for the 2000 Accent manual.

Looks like the same bolt pattern by number and spacing.

right now im actually coming by the 2000 heads from the junk yards there more common.

thanks bryon for the diagrams

i think ill just stick with getting a head for the 1.5 its to much to worry about switching it to the 1.6 enignes because of engine mounts electrical hook up ect. but i appreciate the info very much :)
