I got my brand new Hyundai i30 two weeks ago, and (thanks to this Forum) have only just realised that I needed to spend more money on this "iPod full control cable" to use my iPod properly in the car. What a rip-off. Does anyone know where I can buy one from, here in Switzerland ? Or was it supposed to be included with the car ? And any ideas why, here in Switzerland, Hyundai cars only come with a three year guarantee, rather than the five year guarantee offered everywhere else ? (Shall I say "What a rip-off" again...?) Mike Btw, 10 days - and 540Km - after picking up the car, I had my first flat tyre. A photo is attached. What do you guys reckon... vandalism or a fault in the tyre ? As you can see, the tyre is brand spanking new, it hadn't been scraped or anything...

Here in Switzerland, you have to pay for this "iPod Full-Control Adapter Kit" cable. At a whopping 180 CHF.
That's about £90, or $180 USD.
Or, to put it another way, in order to connect your iPod to an i30, you have to purchase a hugely-overpriced cable which will cost you the same as a brand new 4Gb iPod. Ridiculous...
And, I'll say it again, the most annoying thing is that Hyundai doesn't tell you about this anywhere. It's not mentioned anywhere in their literature or on their website.
If I pay £12,000 for a new car offering iPod compatibility and a USB socket, I don't expect to get home and find I'm not supposed/allowed to connect my iPod to this slot.
What an absolute rip-off.

QUOTE(dazzling_darryl @ May 9 2008, 11:10 PM) If it makes you feel any better we don't get the cable thrown in here in Australia either (Cost is about A$110 I think)
Unfortunately the $2 cable won't give full functionality.
Yeah I realise that, but for a saving of $108 I'll use the clickwheel myself! :P PS: Besides I've only got an ipod mini (4Gb) that I bought from Apple for $99, so it's not worth $110 for a cable for it!! Maybe when I get an iphone things may change! For now I'll use the aux port and my 8gb usb stick :)

I just bought one for $102, I think it's overprices, should be around $50. On the other hand I think it's really handful if you want to use your Ipod in the car. You have full control of the Ipod from the car stereo. I also have a 4Gb Nano too, and now I really enjoy to have it as my main audio source, don't have to change the CDs often now :) QUOTE(ozsnowman @ May 10 2008, 08:31 AM) Yeah I realise that, but for a saving of $108 I'll use the clickwheel myself! :P

QUOTE Out of interest did you get two remote keys? We were going to go for the i30 1.4, but found out that this didn't have remote locking. So, we went for the 1.6 Style instead, and yes, this did come with two remote keys. But no iPod cable. Does anyone have any phone numbers / email addresses I can complain to ? The Hyundai website has plenty of "Contact us" links, but it's all based on customers having to talk to their local dealer. I don't want to talk to a local dealer, I want Hyundai themselves to explain why they're ripping off their customers...

Hi Hi30 If you've got a multi-meter, think you could tell us the pin configuration between the iPod and USB+Stereo jack ends? If we have this, I'll start making cables for about $5. Scrèw Hyundai.

Hi happynoodleboy :) Unfortunately I dont have the multi-meter (what is it anyway :)? is it a measurement device that give configuration for electrical stuff?) I will check with my brother tomorrow to see if he has one, he's an electronic technician, let you know soon. QUOTE(happynoodleboy @ May 15 2008, 08:06 AM) Hi Hi30

You'd need a very fine probe as the ipod has 30 inline pins within the space of an inch. You should be able to find the wiring diagrams on pinouts.ru

The genuine hyundai cable utilises a 3.5mm audio plug that contains a 4th contact, unlike most. Normally they only contain 3 pins for audio left, audio right and ground. This 4th contact is marked as "Detect" on an electrical schematic of the hyundai electrical system posted here: http://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.p...pic,2468.0.htmlMy guess was that the head unit differentiates between an ipod and any other auxilary device by this signal. I wired together my own cable where I tied this contact to the USB +5V rail however it didn't work. I still think understanding the purpose of that 4th contact is the key to making cheap alternate cables though I'm not sure what exact method is used. The quickest way to solve this is to crack one of the cables open and see whats inside - but who wants to waste AU$110?

In Canada, the authentic Hyundai iPod cable is $39.95. In my opinion, that's too much just to be able to control the songs via the in-dash stereo. Just using a 1/8" to 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo plug cable plugged into the AUX works fine but you have to control what you're listening to via the iPod display. As usual, Apple has set their stuff up to work with propriatory accessories ONLY which is one of the reasons I'm not a big Apple fan. Any other mp3 player or memory stick works without any problems or other expensive cables to purchase. Unfortunately, my two daughters are victims of fashion and each have their own iPod. They like the idea of sitting in the back seat with their iPods and controlling what we're listening to anyways. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)
