Hi all,
Just purchased an i30 in Australia and was looking forward to instant iPod compatibility.
Sadly here in Australia (as opposed to Europe/UK) we don't get the "Hyundai iPod full control cable' as standard. It commands $110 AUD as an option. But we do get a 512MB i30 labelled USB stick..... ? hmmmmmm
Can any current i30 owner post a picture of the 'exclusive' cable connections for the iPod or describe the same?
The manual warns one away from using Apple's original usb cable. Is this true?
:)

Hiya breakout8!! Congrats on the purchase of your i30.

I have bought this cable, after much deliberation as to whether I needed it or not. I figured in the end, if I have an iPod, and want to make it fully compatible with the i30, then what the heck, I'll get it. And believe me, it makes it MUCH easier to use the iPod on the i30, giving you full access to the iPod's folders on the stereo display (Playlists, artists, songs etc). It also allows you to play all the iPod encoded song files (AAC) that just using the white cable supplied with the iPod doesn't allow you to do (it just treats it like any other MP3 player).

I'll post a pic of mine later today when I get home from work. The main difference between the standard white cable and the (black) Hyundai one is that along with the USB connection at the end, there is also a 3.5mm plug incorporated with it as one peice, which then plugs into the console (so you have the USB and 3.5mm jack connected at once). The side that connects to the iPod itself is about twice the width of the normal cable.

Hi buddyforu,

Thanks heaps for the information.

The cable sounds very like a Kenwood KCA-IP200 ipod cable I came across at ryda.com.au for $44.95 although it looks rather long for use in the i30. I haven't found out who makes the Hyundai head unit so don't know if it would be compatible but I have a suspicion it might.

I'll probably end up buying the genuine cable but if anyone knows a bit more about the usb side of things, i.e. connection standards and compatibility, I'd appreciate any further information.

I got the ipod cable thrown in when i bought my i30... works great :)

as buddyforu says, on the one plug it has both a usb plug and a 3.5mm plug. the plug has to be the exact right shape if both plugs are on the same physical plastic, otherwise it won't fit.

in the manual for the i30, it says to ONLY use this cable and not the one provided by apple for use with your computer... *shrug*

I too would be interested in any technical specifications people might know about this cable. A US or Australian patent number would also be "helpful".

At the moment, I feel the price is way out of line for this product.

I bought Kenwood KCA-IP200 cable, but it doesn't work with my iPod.
Hyundai i30 after some tries notify about "USB Reading error".

PLEASE, anybody who has original Hyundai i30 cable, post here the cable scheme
(simply check which pin on iPod connector connected to USB/3.5 connector).
Maybe it possible to convert KCA-IP200 to Hyundai by simple soldering.

THANK YOU!

I too deliberated over buying this $110 cable. And as others have said it works very well with the ipod, in fact you have all of your usual controls. I am very happy with it. For information when you plug your iPod in the screen on the iPod displays the "Hyundai' logo and "OK to disconnect'.

Sounds like you definitely need the special ipod cable to get the best results withe i30.

For those wondering about other player copatability, my daughters have Samsung T9 players and they seem to work ok with the Samsung provided USB cable. Files start playing automatically on inserting the cable. The T9 displayes transfering file as the file is being read. I assume the i30 stereo has its own memory that it uses to store files while they are playing. When the file is being played, the T9 displays "Charging". All the controls on the sterring wheel and the dash can be used just as they can with a CD inserted in the stereo.

We are still learning how to get the most from the i30 sound system.

Bob

Dang! My 2009 Sonata is having the same IPOD issue. Looking at the pics of the cable that were posted it would probably be a pretty easy fix to get the connectors down at radio shack and make your own cable......if only there was a pin diagram of what the connection to the ipod is like. Anyone know where to find a pin diagram? It must be available somewhere for all these other businesses to design accessories.

Hey Luthar,

Just do a google search, there are heaps of diagrams in images and lots of references on the general google search which would probably steer someone who knows what they are doing in the right direction.....

Cheers,

Dazz

Here's the iPod side of things

Can't find anything on the Hyundai head unit side. Would do better with part / model numbers but don't have them right now.

Yep, thats me dude :) I usually dont use playlist, just stick mine on shuffle - but for a 4gb Ipod mini, the cable is worth more than the unit! :)

I've got a Samsung mp3 player, I tried to connected to the i30 usb terminal, it works but I can't access to the menu,playlists..etc.. Just wonder if I buy the Hyundai Ipod cable, would it work with my samsung mp3 player or I have to buy an Ipod. Tempted to get the 4G nano but it's quite expensive.

Hi30,

My two daughters have Samsung MP3 players. When you plug them in, they work like a flash drive and just strat playing the files. You can browse through them, but they are not organised in albums so they just play alphabetically by filename.

MP3 player charges when it is plugged in so that's a bonus.

Another possibility is to use the Samsung player as the control unit and plug a cable into the earphone socket with the other end connected to the Aux socket. You won't see tracks, artists, etc info on the dash, but you can use the playlist functions of the Samsung.

I use a flash drive (16Gb) with MP3 files organised in folders for each album.

Bob
