I want to put an aftermarket auto-dimming mirror in my '08 elantra and am wondering if anyone knows how to remove the existing mirror? It doesn't appear obvious to me and I don't want to start cranking and tugging on anything until I know what is the proper way.
Thanks for any info!

I was looking at adding a dimming, homelink, etc. mirror to my Elantra as well. I was having a rock chip repaired and I asked the technician how to remove the mirror. It is quite easy once you know how. Just hold on to the base of the mirror and push down towards the base of the windshield. The mirror slides out of the bottom of the mount pretty easily with steady pressure (it has a wire as a spring). The mounting base of the mirror remains on the windshield. I think you have to install a wedge mount below the OEM mount in order to install the new mirror. Let me know how it goes for you. My Elantra is an '07, but I am sure the mount hasn't changed.

Hey thanks for that. If you have removed your old mirror did you see any wiring that would be used for the auto dimming mirror? I'm thinking that the harness would have been installed at the factory even if the auto dim mirror was not.

REPLACEMENT
1. Push the inside rear view mirror base down to remove the inside rear view mirror assembly after removing the mirror wire cover.

Mirror it adheres closely in the mirror base (A) and it separates while removing the mirror (B).
Make sure the spring mounting bracket © of the mirror not to be damaged.

2. Installation is the reverse of removal.
