Hey guys!

This is my first post though I've been reading this site since I bought my 04 Accent almost four years ago. One of my first mods was removing the yellow plastic from the headlights. Anyway I've got a question that is not necessarily model specific and was hoping for some advice.

I've been noticing a metallic squealing noise from the right side of my car as I'm driving at 40km/h or more. It sounds like it might be coming from the front or back wheels, thought I'm not sure which. It's most noticeable when the windows are down. When I lightly tap on the brakes, the sound goes away, but as soon as I let the breaks go it comes back. The car has 66,000 kms on it and has had work done on the bumper a while back but nothing else. I've got another 2 years on the warranty as well so I'm planning on taking it in. I'm just wondering if anyone might have a clue as to what it is, just in case the mechanics try and tell me that the problem isn't covered under warranty.

I know it's a bit hard to diagnose it with what little information I can provide but any help would be appreciated!

I did do some searching, some people mentioned it might be the brake pads that are worn out. I always thought that the brake pads would start making that warning noise when the brakes were being applied, not when I was just cruising. But I could be wrong!

Thanks again!

it is the brake pads. there is a 'wear indicator' strip of metal attached to the brake pad and it is designed to 'sqeal' to warn you that the pads are low

guess i waited too long to look into this. front brake's were metal to metal. one of the front rotors weren't even machineable. :/ burned through a nice $400 getting it all fixed up.

lesson learned.

on the plus side, the car stops a lot quicker :P
