Yea spark is there. I think I tried the test port too, but can't remember. Done a lot of checks on the systems, But the relays are still on a to do list. It's easy to miss something. But the first and for most problem is getting the fuel to the engine. Then I can go from there if it's more then that.
I am no professional mechanic by any means but I have done all my own repair and also for a lot of friends and family. Plus I have worked in 3 mechanics shops for a short time each. Quit because I don't like repairing cars day in day out, but tried Tranny shop, general maintenance, and school buses. I went to vocational school at nights in high school. All that was so I could learn to work on my own cars. I have fully restored 3 cars from the ground up. Plus major rebuilds on several others for friends. I am not afraid of trying any thing on a car just need some guidance on things I am not use to dealing with. I have a few fuel injected cars. 88 GTA Trans Am TPI, 87 1/2ton GMC 4x4 TBI. 88 GMC G20 Conversion van TBI, 87 CRX Si MPFI, 99 V6 Cougar MPI, 95 1500 4X4 GMC Suburban TBI, and 91 Excel MPFI. So I have been around this stuff. The Honda had trouble of not starting and it was the Dizzy. I replaces every thing because all the ohm's on all the sensors was with in spec's. So the only thing was to start replacing each one. The dizzy was the last thing I replaced, even though it checked out, and what do you know it was the trouble. I bet it has a crank sensor in it like the Excels do.
Another thing the Excel, when it's running, seams to not have much power. Almost like it is stuck in second gear. It is an automatic trany with OD and a power selector on the floor console. I have tried with OD on and off. Power/ Econ on and off. but it doesn't seam to change any thing. I can't say that I can feel the tranny shift. It gets about 28mpg. Which isn't bad but my Honda with a 1.5l MPFI and a 5speed gets 33 mpg combined and 40 mpg on long highway trips. I would think a 1.5l with OD auto tranny should at least get in the 30's (mpg), but maybe I am wrong. What kind a mileage does the 91 Excel get normally? I seen a pedal sensor in a post here, does my Excel have that same sensor? Does it sound like the car is in 2nd all the time?
This Excel has sat more then run. I got it with a connecting rod through the side of the block from a friend for a song. I got a Japanese exchange engine with less then 40,000 miles on it for $700 with a 6month warranty. I only used the the block, heads, and tin. I reused the intake, exhaust, and all the pullies and pumps from the old engine. It only had 7x,xxx on the whole car. My friend got it from a girl that he installed carpet for. She took the car to an oil changing place and they didn't get the oil plug on right, or something like that, which caused her to through a rod on along trip to some where, because it lost its oil. She had the car towed back and some one in the family found the trouble. It was an easy fix. My wife and me had it going in a weekend when we got the newer engine delivered. It was fun to have her help. She liked the car back then. But now likes the Cougar.
Do not buy one of those cars. We have had trouble with it since to had 40,000 on it and it has 99,000. Which isn't much for a 1999. It has been broke most of the time and just sits. Plus it is a complete pain in the arse to work on any thing but the intake.
