Check engine and air bag light are on in my 2001 Elantra. In the past when I took to dealership, I was told engine light R/T gas cap not being closed tightly and air bag light on due to something underneath seat. I do not want to pay money for diagnostics for them to tell me everything is R/T what I mentioned earlier. There is not and has not been anything under seat and yes there is possibility cap not screwed on tightly. Please help!!!!!

:00000732: Paula,

Go to Autozone, Pep Boys, or Checker Auto and get your Check Engine Light code (s) read for FREE.

Go to hmaservice.com and register.
In the DTC tab, you can reference the CEL codes and causes. This at least informs you before you go into the dealer.

I had the air bag seat sensor fail on a 2001 Sonata. Only the dealer has the part and it was like $250. Because you are fooling around with explosive cartridges in the SRS system, you have to let the dealer handle any air bag system repairs.

Also, while the Air Bag Light is on, the SRS system is disabled.

Byron
