My gilrfriend has a 2000 Tiburon. When you turn the headlights on the tail lights stay illuminated wheter you are on the brakes or not. Also you can press the brake pedal with the lights off and all the lights light up like you have turn the driving lights on. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Dear Mason,

Recognize that this is an 8-year old Tiburon. From the information given, it is not possible to diagnose one cause. Here is a list of several:

1) E10 Tailamp Relay (under the engine compartment relay box) could be stuck or sticking
2) Multifunction Switch (on the turn signal stalk) could be worn out. Forum member have reported this wearing out and needing replaced.
3) M28 Stop Lamp Switch (located under the dashboard behind the brake lever) is stuck, cracked housing, failed return spring.

Check all of these, stop lamp switch first.

Thanks for the info, we tried a new stop lamp switch yesterday. I unhooked the old one, hooked the new one up and pressed the button with the lights on and nothing, tail lights still stayed on.

It sounds like it could be the relay, the turn signals work fine. I'm gonna change the relay out tonight and see if that fixes it.
