Matrix's pick up slow coz it's heavy. So you keep pressin your pedal to gain more pick up and speed but ended up complain about high FC.
Go slow on the pedal increase speed gradually only to maintain speed possibly at high gear.
Wanna increase pick up can try Perfomance spark plug/Cable/Air Filter just to name a few

Refer Comments:-
Just installed Eibach Lowering springs on my ride and what a big difference it makes!!!! The car is lowered by approximately 35mm front & rear and the ride is still very compliant/plush not to forget that the car looks much more aggresive/cool. The car feels a lot more planted/stable around bends and the floating sensation at speeds of above 100km/h is totally gone! I also think that braking distance has improved.... Here are the prices that I paid at Yap Brothers:

1. Eibach Pro Lowering Springs: $400.00

Hi

Thats a good info I am looking for. Did you change the shock? Heard that if using the original shock, it will not last right? Don't seems to have any coil over for Matrix right? I have checked and so far, no model of Koni yellow for Matrix oso.

Cheers

Besides what's been mentioned, others have tried Cold-Air Induction coupled with a K& N filter. You may want to try the drop-in type instead of Open Pod if you want better pick up. Open Pod is supposed to increase power only at higher speeds.

I have just got my new Matrix Revo a few days ago. I noticed that the car vibrates when I travel around 60 - 80 km/h. Although the workshop at Hyundai released some air from the tires and rebalanced them, I still find that it is not a smooth drive when the car goes beyond 80 km/h. The vibation is reduced but not eliminated. Have you encountered such problem? Will the lowering spring help? If yes, please let me know the contact number of Yap Brothers. Many thanks and best regards.

Kee
My advice to send back to KMC.The fault has nothing to do with suspension. It's the wheel alignment i'm sure KMC knows this better.
Pls I am not promoting the Eibach spring. It was brought up here as a form of alternative and merely to inform the Matrix community that the spring can be replaced to the aftermarket .And for those who is interested to have a cool look on their Matrix as having a Lowered Suspension does improve handling of corners etc. And if you're crazy over big wheels you will like tend to change the spring to close the gap.But this is done at owners' risk.
Pls also note by replacing one it will thus void the Warranty against any claimed pertaining to suspension system or any relevance link

If the concern is over safety when cornering, you may wish to install a strut bar in the engine compartment. This will improve the stability of the Matrix when cornering tremendously. You need not lower the car.

I am personally against the idea of lowering the Matrix as this goes against why I got the Matrix to be begin with - the height it gives me when I drive it.

Back to the original intent of this message, to improve pick up, you may wish to reprogramme the ECU or install a piggy-back ECU to improve the air-fuel mixture.

The exhaust system can also be changed to a more open-flow type to allow the engine to breathe better.

Me too, my Matrix 1.6 was having the same underpowered problem and also high fuel consumption. I connected the MPV-i device (recommended by friend) to it. To be short, I ended up marketing this product myself. B)

I'm driving a 2002 1.6 Auto which is notoriously known for its high fuel consumption.

1) Before CAI conversion = 320km per full tank.
2) After CAI = 380km per full tank.
3) Today: 1.8 throttle body + extended short ram + medium sized open pod filter = 540km per full tank

Point to note is, try not to push the car while driving during hot afternoons. Let the car gain momentum to increase speed. If you realise, your Matrix performs much better at night and on rainy days. Hope this helps

I wouldn't say that the engine of the 1.6 gas variant is weak. It's just that the Matrix is heavy for its size at 1,310+ kilos. A local review site in my country Motion Cars claims that because of the weight, they ended up flooring the accelerator pedal harder resulting to worse fuel consumption. It's probably more of a power-to-weight ratio problem.

The 1.5 diesel CRDi , assuming it's the 4-cylinder, 16-valve version, could easily handle its weight because of its torque.
