Hi all,

I've been driving my i30 diesel for abvout 2 weeks now, and seeing that it's my first manual, just wondering if I'm driving it correctly.

As it's diesel I understand I shouldn't be revving the gears right out, but not entirely sure what the optimum is.

Can anyone else with a manual diesel please provide some advise regarding timing of gear changes?

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter
Ive had my diesel since november and done about 2500km.You will have noticed when the turbo starts working around 2000rpm and them the car runs out of power around 4500rpm.There is no point in reving past there as nothing much happens.I usually change gears around 2500 - 3000rpm which is where the max torque is.Just drive it so that it feels right for you,but reving it past 4000rpm wont make it go any faster
cheers Haggis

Cheers for that.

One other things...does first gear seem to pull up a bit short (i.e not much power there), making it harder to get off a standing start?

Other gears seem to have plenty of pull although first seems to be lacking a bit. Don't seem to remember the test car being like that.
