The tires are the stock 17" wheels and I run them at approx 30psi, which is the factory recommended pressure.

Just noticed on hmaservice.com there is a sw update for the transmission that is supposed to help with the downshift. I bought my car new from a dealer about a year ago and I've driven it only approx 5k miles. I am going to try and take it in this week to have these issues dealt with.

Still thinking of installing after market coilovers though, I'd like the car to be a bit lower and with a more sporty suspension setup.

Think I just enrolled.
Regardless, my 2007 Ltd w/ ultimate has 8,200 miles after 10 months. Drive it at least 5 days a week, taken several 250-700 mile road trips.
Only problem was the struts and the TSB took care of that, as well as it can be. Still have not found anything in the 30-45,000 range I would trade it in on.
Everything works and I use them all.
Can get up to 30 MPG on the interstate at 60-65 MPH, drops to 26 if I keep it at 75.
Wrote a two page letter to Consumer Reports asking how they came to the worse than average conclusion. Also complained again that as a subscriber I did not get surveyed. I think their survey methods and pool of participants leaves a lot to be desired.
The 07 Lincoln MKZ, 06 Lexus GS and 03 Taurus all had 2-4 worse than average item ratings, but are rated better than average as used cars. Azera had ZERO worse than average ratings, 8 much better and 7 better than average ratings.
Was nice to see Santa Fe and Elantra as best in their class vehicles. Good to see Hyundai as number 3 in reliability for last four years, even including Kia.

:)

We have 10K miles after only seven months.

BTW, your mpg figures are exactly correct. Anyone that says
they get more than that is not telling it like it truely is!

Like you, the only problem we have had was with the
loose shocks, being floppy as if they were worn out.
Had the TSB done and that helped a lot. That is why I asked that fellow what
his build date is to see if his car fell under that TSB, but I got no answer!

The only other problem was the dreaded dead battery yesterday morning, but I may
have pulled the hood latch and forgotten to close the hood properly all the way.
I knew right away what had caused the battery to discharge, and I now check to make
sure that the hood is properly closed. The switch contact was correct, so I
simply failed to close it completely which was my fault and not the cars'.

Running only 30 PSI (cold) is not nearly enough IMHO.
Try 37-38 cold and notice the big improvement.

As far a lowering the car, it is already low enough to scrap
my driveway if I go over the curb just a little to fast.
Lowering it just by removing one coil from the front springs as suggested by Mahout
would improve the handling I'm sure as Mahout has proven, but I don't
want the car scrapping my driveway every time I go into my garage.

IF you should get a reply from CU, please post what they say, as I'd like to know.

This rating, the the Used Car Verdict of half-black circle for the 07, while the 06 got a half red circle can be found on the CR site, only if you are a member.  I brought this up a couple of months ago to see if any one could figure this out as to why the lower rating since the 07 has just about as many full and half red circles and no black circles when compared to the 06. Some of you came back stating no definitive answers which I also got the opinion.  Can't get a handle as to why, no explanation on CR's site.  Almost think of sending them an email to see if they can answer.  Maybe it is the resale value that CR is hitting the Az with but this particular section of CR is on reliability.  We enjoy the Azera, maybe we also got lucky with a late, April 07, build date.  Agree with you Mahout, this is a heck of a car for the price.  One dealer here in DFW land was selling 2 Limited for 20K, new.  If people only knew, these cars would be going fast.  Have now seen 5 in my area of DFW.  For all you Az lovers, love this site, I get a lot out of what all of you add with your knowledge.  Thanks.

I'm setting here reading the April 08 annual car issue: the Azera gets full red dot for USED CAR VERDICTS in 06 but half black circle in 07 The o6 had one average for electrical and 07 had two for power equipment and climate systems. That constitutes changing from well above average to below average ?

I run 32 PSI in my tires. Actually got 32 MPG on the interstate a few months ago running it at 60 on cruise. A lot of different factors. Ironically in every car I have owned I get better milage going south to Columbia SC from Greenville SC than I do coming back using cruise and same speed both directions.

Doesn't make any sense does it?

Sometimes, I think that CU doesn't think things through properly!

i.e. The Jeep Liberty 2.8L diesel . . . They reported that this vehicle got only eleven (11) mpg city.
As an engineer, please explain that? Even if the locked it in low gear and rev'd it like crazy.
There's no way! :whistling:

CU and I share the same DOB and I think both of us are getting along in years!

BTW, what pressures do you run in your tires when you are not at the track?

Greenville, South Carolina, elevation: 966 feet.

Columbia, South Carolina, elevation: 292 ft

You're going mostly downhill from Greenville to Columbia!...

Thought about that, but it sure seems to be as many uphills as downhills in both directions. Maybe it's just my perception.
I'm really beginning to doubt accuracy of Consumer Reports. Maybe they will explain it if they respond to my letter asking how they reach some of their reliability and good used car opinions.

I'm wondering what color is your dash?

I'm thinking that perhaps the darker colors may be prone to having this problem.

interior is beige.
got the car 11/06, and have maintained the interior. crack started appearing about 8/07. i showed the service guy (at the dealership) when i took it in for my last oil change. they had to order the part and it was in within a week. they initially told me it would be a 2 day fix, but it only took 1 (i wanted to get a loaded vera cruz for a loaner).

Thanks. Ours is beige also.

We got ours in August 2007, but the car was built in December.
I wonder if sitting outside and the increased exposure to sunlight aggreviates the problem?

Did Hyundai make some running changes in the dash since your
car was built, or do I have the problem to look forward to also?

Time will tell.

my car was built july 2006, recvd 11/06. i live outside tampa, fl (= very sunny; 7 months of what others would consider summer). i park in an uncovered lot at work (don't want the stuff that falls off the oaks or from the birds) and my wife has full reign of our 2 car garage (which means it sits outside at home).

the dash did not feel dry. i think this may just have been a fluke thing. the new dash is exactly the same (thank goodness). the install from the dealer is great. everything looks the same.

.....go tony go (looking for the first checkered flag for a toyota in the cup series)

Not only the downgrade but the '07 made the "Cars to avoid" list. Hard to figure out plus no real explanation as to how they arrive at this since the '07 have many red circles, 2 empty circles, and no dark circles. Like many other things in life have to take CR with a grain of salt.

:)

Make that many grains of salt!
Over the last fifty plus years, I have learned to keep the old salt shaker handy.

Like the time that CU posted that the Jeep Liberty diesel 2.8L four
cylinder got only eighteen miles per gallon in the city.

Anyone that knows anything about small diesels knows that this is simply not correct.

If they cannot even accurately measure how much fuel thay put into a
vehicles' tank, how can they be trusted to tally anything correctly?

This month's issue of Consumer Reports rated the Azera as one of the most overlooked cars with an excellent rating for owner satisfaction.
That should drum up some Azzy curiosity!

The 2006 and 2007 are now in the survey, but more participants are needed for results. Currently both years are near the bare minimum

Finally managed to book maintenance and repair at the local shop for next Friday (I travel internationally a lot). In the mean time the switch for moving the seat backwards has started acting up. It needs to mild violence in order to engage. This is a real pain as my wife drives this car occasionally, she is 5ft6 and I am 6ft4.

That makes 6 warranty repair items in a year...

The crack on the passenger side.

A friend of mine has a 2006 Azera and infomed me a few weeks ago he had a crack in the dash around the air bag area. It was a very thin crack but it continued to get longer.

He had the dash replaced as well then the air didn't work. He had that fixed and now everything is fine. His car is dark blue.
