I'm in...2006 Azera Limited w/Premium package with 46K miles on it. In 2 years...I've dealt with a faulty seatbelt sensor (causing the airbag light to stay on), chipped laminate on the steering wheel, the sunroof not seating properly and a defective clock. None of which are issues that left me stranded or caused the car to be inoperable. All of which were taken care of by the service department at the dealership I go to with no hassle or fuss. I'm truly happy with my Azera. However, I am anxiously awaiting my test drive in the upcoming Genesis!!!

I'm in a 2006 Azera Limited w/the Ultimate package with 13,500 miles on it. The only issue I've had to deal with was the "dreaded clunk." As soon as the TSB was released by Hyundai on this issue, I took a copy of it to my dealer's service department and told them I had the suspension problem. There were no questions asked, no test drive taken, and no hassle. They ordered the shocks/struts and installed them.
My steering wheel hasn't chipped, the rear window sun screen works flawlessly, my seat belt lights only go on or go off when they are suppose to, the sunroof has seated & worked properly since day one, the clock keeps better time than the one on my wrist and it begins with a R and ends with an X, the transmission shifts quite nicely and when I use the shiftronic manual shift, which I do frequently, it never has clunked down into 1st gear or skipped 2nd gear.
The dash board has not cracked around the air bag section, the hood opens with the lever without difficulty, the rear license plate doesn't rattle, and my engine doesn't make any strange noises when starting it up on a cold morning. My lights don't dim when I decellerate or step on the brake.
Now I must admit that I originally had the headlight shadow from my driver's side headlight, so I got out my trusty screwdriver and adjusted the headlight up until the shadow wasn't a problem. I've never had an oncoming driver flash his lights at me to tell me that I'm blinding him.
On the only long trip I've taken so far (approx 400 miles), I got 28 MPG with four adults in the car and luggage for four in the trunk. Baseball spring training starts tomorrow for the Red Sox and I'll be driving down to Fort Myers, FL to see them in about two weeks with my wife. I can't wait to see what kind of gas mileage I'll get driving from Virginia to Florida now that I have a few miles on the engine..
So, needless to say, I'm as happy as a guy with a fist full of one dollar bills in a strip club over my Azera. My dealer's service department is great, they do good work, and I get every other oil change free.
I've already let my dealer know that I want a call from them the day the first Genesis shows up on their lot. I'm anxious to see it in person.
We're fortunate to have such a great car for the money and fortunate that both of us have great service departments to go to when needed.
I always enjoy your posts,
Don

Don, I have an 06 Azzy Limited (Premium) with about 13,500 miles and clunk was taken care of, and an 06 Sonata LX6 with about 7,500 miles. My experiences have been fantastic. I just came back from the dealer and spent about 45 minutes with Service Manager chatting up cars. My replacement steering wheel has a chipped veneer, new one being ordered, no questions asked. I have timing chain tensioner problems with both cars and ordered parts along with the new steering wheel. I have never dealt with such a customer oriented service department and I dealt with "red carpet" dealers in the past (Acura). So I too am waiting for the Genesis to appear on the scene. Being retired and a senior, I might be interested in the coupe which will be successor to the Tiburon. I absolutely love the Azera, even if I only get to drive it on weekends (wife's car) and my Sonata is also a dream to drive. What's not to like with these cars offering good quality, at a fantastic price point. I am well past the "impress the neighbors" stage and the flying H doesn't give me an inferiority complex. :) Don

QUOTE(allmet33 @ Feb 14 2008, 05:03 PM) Don,
I'm glad to hear that you've had such a wonderful experience. Mine too, has been wonderful...even with the minor issues (that were no big deal to me) that came up since my service department handled them with no problems at all. I've said it before in posts in other forums, customer service can make or break the whole ownership experience.
I have driven to Florida with 3 adults and 2 kids and a trunk full of luggage, averaging about 75 mph with A/C on and I saw 27 mpg. I can only imagine what those numbers might have been if it were just me and the wife and no A/C!!!
One thing I truly believe...anyone that has anything negative to say about the Azera, hasn't taken the time to check one out...even if it's just a test drive. I'm not saying it's the perfect car, but anyone that has a negative image of Hyundai products would be swayed by this car.
Keep up with your posts as well.

Mike and Don (dronrs) - Hyundai has made tremendous accomplishments in recent years in their ability to produce quality vehicles. Now, when it comes to the Azera, they haven't exactly been marketing genuises, nevertheless, the car offers a lot of bang for the buck and most of us came to that conclusion on our own.....or maybe we're just smarter than the average bear. I really get a lot of enjoyment out of driving it everyday. It's not a perfect car, but boy does it have a lot going for it. Since I'm heading down from Virginia to Red Sox spring training in Florida soon, I just realized that this trip could be really fun if I stop and see some of the forum regulars on the way. Let's see, I head to Mahout in North Carolina, then over to Andyman 32 in Raleigh, then a stop in South Carolina at Carolina Bobs, then shoot down to Wildcat in Georgia, and finally dinner at Gamle-ged's in Florida. Wow, I may be on to something here. I've also got tickets, for later in the year, to see the Red Sox in Cincinnati and tickets to see the Red Sox in Camden Yards in Baltimore (or as we call it - Fenway South) and I'm working on tickets to a home game in Boston. I'll bet there are lots of forum regulars I could see on these trips. Anyway, have a great weekend folks, Don

QUOTE(mahout @ Feb 29 2008, 08:52 PM) The 2008 Consumer Report annual auto issue arrived. Several hyundai's are recommended including the Azera yet they have downgraded the 07 Azera to average reliability even though the owners reports were above average. Owner satisfaction was among the highest of all vehicles.
Reading this Consumer Report is what finaly convinced me to go out and purchase my 2008 Azera last week here in Ontario, Canada. I have been impressed with the Azera for some time with all i had read by auto journalists, as well as my test drives, but the CR gave me the nudge for my first ever non domestic purchase.

:) What I cannot understand about CU is why/how they downgraded our fine Azeras to worse than average as used cars? See used car verdicts, page 91. The 06s were not so rated; Only the 07s were so downgraded. Sometimes Consumer Reports must be taken with a grain of salt . . Even a whole shaker full at times! :amen:

I haven't gotten my copy yet. But I do have the "Best & Worst for 2008," which as I said earlier has the same information in it. That just wasn't included in subscripions--you have to buy it on newsstands. Subscribers get the same info for free, just nearly half a year later :) Anyway, looking in the old magazine, I see that the 2006 has a "much better than average," while the 2007 is "worse than average." Simply put, a higher problem rate was reported for the 2007. This is unusual. Problem rates are usually higher in the first year. But it is possible that in both cases the ratings were barely achieved. If so, the problem rates could differ by as little as 65% of the average. Which might sound like a lot, but the average is around 18% for the 2007s, and not much higher for the 2006. So let's say 20%. 65% of 20% is 13%, or one extra problem for every seven or so cars. How wound up do you want to get by one extra problem for every six or so cars? How much of this difference is even real, and not the result of random variation? CR's sample sizes are often large enough that they should rule out random variation, yet their results contain many anomalies. I've written about some of these here: Anomalies within Consumer Reports' resultsOf course, CR doesn't divulge this level of information, and even buries the information needed to arrive at this estimate. So very, very few readers will realize the differences can be so small, even for dots that are three levels apart. That's why I started conducting research at TrueDelta, wich translates as "the real difference." We post the actual repair rates, so the difference is clear. We've started collecting data on the Azera, but more participants are going to be necessary to provide results. I hope to have some in May, but it's going to depend on people here.

QUOTE(jvrijn @ Mar 2 2008, 02:41 PM) Dissatisfied with [the] suspension. Keeping the car in it's lane at high speed on SoCal highways is a chore.
This is an 06 Azera Ltd. I have 2 more years to go in it, but not sure if I'd buy a Hyundai again, though the price was very appealing for such a big car.
:) What is the build date on your '06? Your car may fall under the TSB that provides for new front shocks. Sounds like it may be out-of-alighment also? What tire pressures are you running? :P
