my trajet 2.0l gsi petrol won't start.

broke down whilst driving a couple of weeks ago, towed home, error codes suggested cam sensor error.
saved up for new sensor but still doesn't start. Had to recharge battery as it went flat.

Immobiliser symbol fashes 5 times when ignition turned on, is this faulty?

Plugs spark and are wet.

Any help appreciated.

If your sparks are wet and are sparking then its not immobiliser. Can you do a compression check on it?.

If plugs are wet and sparking it should start ??
Did you clear the fault codes after fitting sensor?
Does the cam sensor fault code still come up?
Did you check the cambelt, valve timing ?
as above have you done a compression test

cambelt is intact, cleared codes.

cars now in local garage after the aa tried to start the car which resulted in a backfire blowing off oil cap and destroying a plug.

expensive repair coming i think.

Had similar problem. Heard noise like a bearing of the generator had failed. While driving to the garage engine stopped. Towed to garage. Diagnosis was that bearing from cam belt spanner was totally broken causing the cam belt to slip over the gearwheels. Much, much mechanical damage.
Overhauled replacement engine not available and would cost an awful lot of money nayway. Ended up with an extensive engine overhaul and an outrageous invoice.

Same problem?

We have 2002 Trajet 2.0l Diesel Automatic and currently have similar problem. Driving car one day and it stopped, immobilised, and would not start again. After waiting a while was able to start it and drive home.

Booked in with dealer (meanwhile problem became more and more frequent) who did 60,000 mile service, and scanned computer and told us the cam belt sensor was the problem, and that there was no engine problem.

Took it away while we waited for the part and had no problems at all after the service. However after taking it in for the sensor to be replaced the problem has returned.

The dealer has had it for two days since then and have no idea what the problem is.

The cam belt was replaced only a few months ago, so this was not done at the 60,000 service.

When the car stops randomly like this the engine light comes on. However it is only on sometimes when the engine is actually going.

So we've just paid nearly £500 for the service, and another £200 for the cam belt sensor (which obviously wasn't required) and the car is still unusable!

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

Do you mean camshaft sensor. If you do then the associated wiring can be a problem to the ecu. It can also be the cambelt out of sync. Have they checked the injectors for leak off or fuel rail pressure. I dont like to slag off dealers but are they checking it properly.
