Hi, I have a problem with the front washers on my '04 Terracan. I believe the filter at the pump, or at the exit to the washer bottle is blocked as if I remove the tube to the bonnet nozzles and blow back air comes up through the washer bottle OK and the washers will work at full power for a few seconds, but then reduce to a trickle.

The rear washers are fine which is a little confusing as they use the same reservoir and I assumed the same pump?

I noticed a previous post with the same problem, but any knowledge on where the filter is and how to access would be great. It looks to me like the bottle is held between the wing and the wheel arch, so I'm hoping not a major fault to fix and I guess one that warranty would not cover!

Thanks in advance.

you will need to remove the plastic inner wing shield to access the pump which indeed has a filter in it which can be cleaned out, hyundai washer pumps have a nasty habit of giving owners some grief and yes it would be covered by your warranty so get your dealer to do it for free

Just in case it helps anyone else, I could not access the washer bottle and filter, as I could not work out how to remove the wheel arch cover, so I disconnected the washer tube at the connector rear left of the engine bay, used a nozzle from an (unused) tube of silicone sealant to widen the aperture and forced water from a hose the wrong way into the washer bottle.

It took a number of times to alternate between blasting water into the washer bottle to dislodge the grime and forcing water the wrong way down the tube, but eventually the crap rises to the top of the bottle and overflows.

I dont know how long it will last but they have been working fine for a week now with frequent use. The problem was a slime I guess caused by cheap or too heavily concentrated washer fluid.

Just sold my T-can, not sure if it was the right thing to do, but it was depreciating fast and was little used. Anyway, I thought I would complete the above story as a word of warning.

By blasting water the wrong way through the washer bottle I actually damaged the motor and had a major water leak a few weeks later, but luckily Hyundai replaced it under warranty, so be warned that my trick to clear the tubes of crud and crap could backfire on you!

T-can has two washer pumps.
