2004 elantra.

having problems with the low beams. I keep burning bulbs. replacement of the bulb is not the answer as I have burned out three already. 2 were PIAA not cheap. I think it's a ground issue but am not sure. are there any known issues with the headlight circuit? called the local dealer, "bring it in and we'll replace the bulb" I want to fix the problem not the symptom.

please help!

Respectfully L.

No issues that i'm aware of and I also drive an 04. How often are they burning out? I was blowing through the hyper white's about every 2 months so I went back to the stocks and haven't had a problem since.

it would be a good idea to get the charging system checked, the alternator may be giving out too much charge (faulty voltage regulator)

I first experienced the problem with a pair of PIAA bulb on the right side. I switched back to the OEM units just to have something in the socket that generates light. the OEM bulb lasted only about a week. I then put the other OEM bulb in on the right side. (that one is still working) about 4 days ago my left side PIAA finally "gave up the ghost". I'm starting to think that I may have a grounding issue... Does any1 know where the headlight circuit is grounded at? I will also follow the advice of the preceding posts.

thank you all for the help

L

My friend and I both have 02 Elantra GTs. We have the same problem with bulbs burning out. I got pulled over by a cops because my bulb burned out THAT night! I even keep extra bulbs in the trunk because they burn out so often. There is something wrong. Let's get to the bottom of this. Class Action???

My elantra 2002 has the same problem. The bulbs are ok with the engine off. Starting the car burns the bulb out. Its giving P0563 code "system voltage high", have my alternator check by a mechanic and it is ok. OBD voltage reads around 16.1 volts. It could be a grounding problem or something to do with hyundai airbag system which on my car is illuminated or .... the dealer did it.

I have a 2006 Elantra, went through 5 bulbs. I stopped using the automatic shutoff and turn the lights off before turning the car off, also I unpluged my sirius radio from the cigarette socket. Have not burned any since, hope this helps.

For hypercar and others,

16.1 volts!!! yikes, your alternator output voltage is high and your mechanic is incompetent (sounds nicer than idiot).

Your alternator output voltage should be in the 15.1-15.3 volt range. Yes, those little running light, turn light and park light bulbs WILL blow from 16.1 volts, just as surely as sticking your tongue in a light socket will give you a Buckwheat hairdo.

Get your voltage regulator checked again at a different dealer.
