Hi, New to Forum and am desparate for advice please. My 2001 Petrol Auto Trajet coughs, splutters and stalls after about 40 mins use. Restarts straight away but dies again after a few mins (ECL illuminated on some occasions, but not always). Garage has had it for 2 weeks now and have cleaned injectors, flushed fuel system, replaced fuel filter, spark plugs and fuel pump. ECU has been substituted and programmed with another from spare Trajet but same symptoms persist. Computer diagnostics does not reveal any system fault. Garge now at a loss as to what to try next. My "gut" feeling is an electrical fault, but do not know what else to check. Any advice gratefully received and much appreciated.

Also, are ECU's transferable between models or model specific?

Have they check the Plug cables, the ignition coil or the plugs? If yes, try cleaning the internal of the throttle body coz if the Throttle body is dirty, it may affect the idling. :)

ECU is transferable if they are of the same model and engine type. :)

Thanks. Coils and cables have been checked but not the throttle body. Will clean today and post results. Many thanks again.

3 things come to mind. Immobiliser/crankshaft sensor or partialy blocked exhaust.
ECU's are transferrable but need neutralizing first if a immobiliser is fitted

Hello bro , I had a similar problem with my Jet .... did all the mess that you have talked about .... finally it was the crankshaft sensor playing up , very sensitive component , once this was replaced , the problem was fixed.

Go check this....

Thanks guys for all the info.

Crankshaft position sensor changed 2 days ago. Still doing some test driving to gain full confidence in the car. Problem has NOT come back as yet. Now that I know other people have had the same fault and this was the cause I am more confident that it is FIXED.

What a great website this is. Just wish I knew about it earlier!!

Thanks again.

Hi Rich T

Glad you got your problem solved . I wonder why it was not possible

to read the error code of the ECU . It should output the code that indicate

the faulty sensor ... is not that true

Regards

Unfortunately on some designs do not pick up cranshaft sensor faults.

I can't believe my luck finding this thread!

I live in Sri Lanka and just 3 days ago bought the same model Trajet reconditioned in Korea in 2001 and then stored for 6 years, with only 36,000 Km on the clock. On the first day (yesterday) it cut out when hot climbing mountain roads. Restarted again almost immediately and then kept repeating the same until I gave it half an hour to cool down. The temperature guage was only mid range and coolant level is fine.

Could I too have a faulty crankshaft postion sensor? Hyundai serviced the vehicle 2 days ago and pronounced it fine, so it's nothing obvious. I'm in the middle of nowhere and reluctant to drive it back home on winding precipitous mountain roads with no crash barriers with any risk of engine cutting out and loss of power steering. Planning to get Hyundai to send up whatever part may be needed and get local garage to fit it.

Can anyone tell me if this is an easy part to replace?

Rich T, is yours still OK after changing that sensor?

I need guidance. Am trying to download workshop manual but have only slow internet accesss here and it's and 85 MB file. Any help appreciated!

Rob

Been working abroad so not visited website for couple of months. Sorry but my reply probably too late for you.
Crankshaft sensor quite easy to change for competant mechanic but needs to have the timing belt removed (2-3 hours) as sensor located under belt cover.
Maybe prudent to change timing belt if due in near future to save on labour costs.
My wife has driven many KM's in my absence and experienced no more problems for the Trajet since changing sensor.

Thanks Rich T. I was getting frustrated checking the forum every few hours before having to make the precarious drive down back to Colombo on mountain roads with the engine stalling. Anyway, I made it. Hyundai workshop said they had found a fault in the wiring harness and there was no need to change anything. Same problem just came back again. I think they just didn't want be bothered to change it. Whilst I was there they were all gathered around the TV as cricket was on!

Second time around they changed the crankshaft position sensor as I absolutely insisted on it (they still argued it wasn't that) and the problem was cured! Thanks to this forum as I had no idea and the Hyundai worksho were so insistent that it was this thing and that thing but never mentioned the crankshaft sensor.

Only thanks to this forum and people like you has that problem been sorted.

It ran great for a while but now I've got a new headache with pinking and cutting out when exhaust gets hot, engine warning light flashing and consumption of about 4-5 Km/l (see another thread). I'm not being too lucky with this particular car! I still like it though, so spacioius for a budget car.
