Hi there!

I'm looking to buy my first car, and have taken interest in a 1995 3dr Excel.
Does anyone have any advice or opinion on whether this would be a good, reliable 1st car?

Thanks!

- Vicky

hello there,
the humble excel has copped a lot of flak over the years an has been classed as a crappy cheap car by the motoring masses (in comparasion to ford / holden)

however i have found them to be excellent as an economy car, and will last forever provided the owners take care of them with reguar servicing and common sense (no race car driving etc).
my mother has a x3 excel that has driven over 300,000kms with no major problems.

they are great on fuel, but being a 1995 vintage car, one should look at making sure teh basics are looked after before you buy it, things like
coolant flushes, fuel system / filter changes, timing belt depending on Kms driven etc.

otehr than this they are a great first car, and if i was out buying one as a first car would definatly considier one.

Have fun and good luck with your choice.

BTW, if you do get the excel, drop into the Hyper Auto Club.
it's an australian Hyundai club and website forum (like this one) with about 500 registered members, so there is a good chance to meet some locals for cruises and events.

Do not buy the car.

I own a 1995 Hyundai Elantra and just finished repairing the cylinder head myself.
It was probably not worth repairing because the car is only worth $700 if everything works on it. In my case I bought the part for $450 and did all the work myself. If I would have had it done the repairs by a mechanic it would have cost $2000 to repair.

I also have owned used Toyota and Hondas. I currently own a 1991 Honda Accord LX.

For quality, dependability and value go for the Toyota or Honda, everything else is not worth your while. I bought the Honda 4 years ago for $3K and have just bought tires for it. I can sell it today on Auto Trader for $5K.

Hi

I bought an excel for my first car and has been gr8! I've now owned for over a year have done regular services on it myself and its running beautifully! I also have added a tow bar to it and pull dirt bikes around and its copes very well with the load. the suspension doesn't sang and theres not much differences in power. There extremely economical while being quit zippy.
I have heard of alots of owners having them from new and are still running gr8 300000kms l8r! (if serviced regulary of course!)

I give thumbs up!
Good Luck with the search! :)

Well I bought a Excel 97 as my first car and it goes strong.

I drive it every day back and forth to work and have been for about a year now.

Not a single problem!!!

And they are ultra economical!!!!

With petrol prices soaring. That's one thing to seriously consider!

I have a 1993 model (the X2, boxy one) and it has been nothing short of awesome. Bought it for $1200 with 220,000 km on it and it still beats strong. Quite quick and of course uses like no fuel. Seriously, i dont know where those claims of poor quality came from, it is a ***** tank.
