Just purchased a 2007 Santa Fe. I really like it but why is there only one interior lamp way in the back? I think I would rather not have the sunglass holder on the roof console if I could have a nice size interior lamp to light up the front seat area at night.

There is a TSB on this. Sorry I don't know the specifics (my front light worked) Look further down in this forum and search the Hyundai forum at edmunds.com

Short story, tell your dealer this is a safety concern and you weren't aware of it before you purchased your vehicle.
Ask if there is anything that they can do. Then can call Hyundai who can voluntarily compensate the dealer to get your front map lights to work as courtesy lights with the rear dome lamp. many of us have had it done. They may have done some already.

I called Hyundai USA and spoke with a representative. She told me that since this issue is so widespread that they offer a free "retrofit" kit that they would send to my dealership to have installed free of charge. All she needed from me was the interior color and she needed to know whether my SF had a sunroof or not. She told me that my dealers service department would call me that same day to set up an appointment to bring my car in. They never called. I called the dealer a couple of days later and asked about what I was told. The service guy says that nobody from HUSA has contacted them but that he could order the same kit for me. I'm supposed to go in next week for the install. While I'm there I'll ask them to set my auto door locks also. Which they probably will have no clue how to do. :whistling:
