My 2 year old Matrix 1.6GSI (18000 miles) has developed an intermittent starting problem. Generally it starts OK but from time to time for no apparent reason it just turns and turns and will not fire. There is no pattern to it, ie cold/warm/ wet/dry/ pressing accelerator pedal or not. It has had regular servicing and is obviously under warranty.

The only way I can get it to start when it plays up is by opening the driver's door!!!
They have had it back at the Hyundai franchise on three occasions for varying periods of up to two weeks and seem unable to sort it. The ECU computer shows a fault but they seem unable to correct it. They say its fixed but it isn't.

Has any other Matrix owner had this problem and can anyone come up with a solution? Do you think I should contact Hyundai UK direct?

i had this same problem when i reached 24000km. i had to do one to two clicks and force the engine to act up before it starts spontaneously. sent it back to the service and had the battery replaced - it's been good since then!

can they try checking the battery?

mine is 60000 km now ... I had this problem at 35000 km ... the service center here in Egypt changed the ECU under warranty and the problem disappeared !!

They did have a problem with ecu's where the first turn the car spluttered and on the second it started perfectly. Contact Bob Brumpton at customers services if your not happy
