Hi,
I'm newbie. I hope that someone can help me. I have a 1997 Accent 1.3Si (UK). Am having gearbox trouble. It started with tight selection of gears - particularly 2nd & 4th. Had to drive 3miles home stuck in 2nd gear. With help off my wife, she wiggled the gear stick & selected gears (without engine running). Found them stiff to select. I stuck my head under the bonnet, looking for trouble. Could not see anything broken. Suddenly the gear stick became loose. (inside the car) . The selector rods mounted on top of the gearbox did not move. If I pushed the rods toward the bulkhead my wife could select gears. But it would then stick in that gear. Does any one have a clue what it wrong?
No stupid replies please! :liebe011:

before you start to worry about the gearbox you should check out the whole of the gear change lincage for any wear and general 'sloppy' movement. if you can select the gears by moving the selector rods on the gearbox it would initially point towards a lincage problem

O.K. I've looked at the linkage. Totally baffled! Can some one explain where the rods etc lie? The linkage joints on top of the 'box are intact, but a little sloppy - expected as the car's done 98k miles!

Ki all,
I got a neighbour who works for the AA (U,K.) to look at the linkage, he also thinks it is this is the problem. I have searched the web for more help & came across another Hyundai based forum. I have been told that TSB 98-49-13 is an issue & I should contact a local dealer. Will keep this updated.
