hi sir ...
first of all our matrix comes in three engines :
1- turbo diesel type 1.5 (1493 cc )
2- gasoline type 1.6 Alpha 2 ( 1599 cc ) code named (G4ED)
3- gasoline type 1.8 (1795 cc)

the 1.6 gasoline type is the most common and I think this is your engine ...
both gasoline engines are DOHC engines ( Dual Over Head Cam ) ...
I hope this was satisfactory .....

my matrix engine no. located near the ignition coil. and it's very hard to read/reach. the manual says that it's also located near exhaust header, but you have to open the heat protector first.

Thanks for info. Whenever you do your annual vehicle registration in the Philippines you have to do a pencil rubbing (they call it "stencil") of the engine number, which has posed a problem ever since I ran out of the rubbings I had my dealer do the first time I had the car brought in for the first 1,000 km. checkup. I simply rub one back onto the form.

I remember the mechanic telling me that he had to remove a heat shield and really reach into a deep recess. For my last registration, I just appealed to the registrar and the vehicle inspector helped me instead of getting himself burned reaching into the engine compartment for something that was not accessible without tools!
