US version sonatas can only turn on the fog lamps when the head lamp is turned on, and when you flash or hi beam, the fogs are off.
BUT, Korean version sonatas can turn the fogs without turning on the head lamp.
We do have DIY fog lamp conversion, but we can't control the fogs with the switch.
So, I finally did the DIY conversion, and I can start using my fogs more often
I will post pictures by this evening.
BTW, I already lost two white plastic trim pins~! LOL

I am going to use the factory relay and just control the coil on the relay with the marker light positive wire. That way anytime the marker lights are on the fog lights will also come on.

Mine are on permanently, also functioning as DRL during the day. Was done by a professional.

The permanent method is already posted HERE

, and it doesn't require any professional ASE certified technician to do it at all. :P
it's actually easier than replacing head lamp bulb.

I didn't like the way of turning the fogs on permanently without any controling method.

So what did you come up with to turn them on? What do you think of my idea?

Nice job! Tell us how you did it. Did you change your low beam bulbs?

Yup.
My low beams are converted to HIDs.

and for the fog lamps,
1. you need to take the driver's side lower crash panel and steering wheel column covers off.
2. Find a connector that has a wire that connects the fog lamp switch and dimmer/passing switch.
3. Cut the wire and ground the wire from the fog switch.
4. pop the hood and locate the fues box.
5. there's three bolts holding the fuse box to the connectors at the bottom of the fuse box.
6. unbolt the bolts and disconnect the fuse box from the big three connectors at the bottom of the fuse box.
7. locate the connector that has a wire that connects the fog lamp relay and head lamp low beam relay.
8. cut the wire and connect that wire to the left side marker lamp wire.
9. turn the parking lamp only and you enjoy your fog lamps turned on

Thanks for the info. Could you be more specific with wire colors and locations? Can you still use the fog lamp switch to operate the fog lights?

Nate, what if you connected the wire to a ignition on power supply instead of the marker lamps? Would this allow the fogs to be controlled independent of any other lights. Do you think this would work?

yes, you use the factory fog lamp switch to control the fog lamps.
And yes, it you connect the wire from the fog lamp relay to ignition, you can have complete control regardless of headlamp switch position.
for example, if you start the car, you can turn the fog on without turning the parking lamp at all.
I hooked up the wire to the side marker lamp because I wanted exact same setup as korean version sonatas.

Ah, brilliant, I will try this after doing the under dash wire cut and apply to ground mod. Ignition on will be easy to use in the under hood fuse box, I've already tapped in to an Ignition on wire in there for my Radar connection.
