hi there just wanted to know if any knew how to get the housing around the stero out in a 1998 x3 excel ??? n e help would b great

look closely, remove the star screw's in trim

My g/f has the 1997 model and that was a mongrel to get the stereo in :( The face plate doesn't actually come off fully but you can remove it just enough to get the stereo in and out. I did it like this:

1. Take off the panel under the steering wheel and unhook loops that attach your fan/aircon vent wires to the clips that control the vents and things. You just need to squeeze the clip and pull the wire loop off.

2. Take the glove box stoppers off so it can drop down and you can take the rest of the wire loops off the clips from behind there.

3. Now remove the screws from behind the ashtray and you should be able to pop the face plate off enough to get at the stereo screws.
