Hi Group,
We live in Bahrain and this weekend test drove a brand new Tuscon 2.0L petrol base spec.
It was fine for our flat roads but rather harsh under load and for me, a little under-powered. The 2.7 V6 is not available here.
We have also been looking at a 2005 St FE 2.7 V6 with 51k on the clock.
We noticed a couple of used Terracan's on the forecourt and became interested.
They are both 3.5L (apparently straight six??) engines.
One has 51K (KMs) on the clock - the other 89K but has leather and is obviously cheaper. Both are 2005.
We drove the higher mileage model and I noticed the steering seemed to have a lot of play - is this normal and can anything be done to improve it? Or is it just a triat of the car?
Does anyone have any advice on engine life - is it worth paying the extra money for the less used model? Are they a mechanical liability?
Also if anyone has any advice on whether to go for the new Tuscon or used St FE over the used Terracan, it would be most welcome. Whilst the Terracan is an attractive driving experience, I am concerned it will rapidly be seen as dated and suffer high depreciation.
Regards,
Wadibasher.

Think very carefully before laying out any money on one of these. so far my 2003 2.9 Diesel model which has done 64K miles has an intermittent failure to start fault for which the dealer has fitted a new camshaft sensor and a new ignition key but which is still there sometimes, a collapsed heater manifold, rear diff vibration- unfixed, lousy fuel consumption- it never does better than 28 mpg although Hyundai claim much better than that, the printed-on radio aerial failed and now the gear box has failed- apparently because I was too rough with it!! It would help if the dealers had been trained to work on it- mine ( "a Hyundai Terracan specialist" ) told me he had never actually worked on one before because "they never break down" - yeah, right!! Why have I still got mine- because I can't find anyone stupid enough to buy it off me!! I have owned Citroens, Isuzus, Toyotas, Diahatsus and Renaults and this is far and away the worst car I have ever owned.

Hi, thanks for the advice.
I have now bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee, V8-4.7L.
No comparison in terms of build, ride and acceleration.
Good luck with the Hyundai - I actually think as a brand it has a lot to offer and will begin to command a premium once it shakes off it's old image.
Thanks again and good luck to all in the group.
Wadibasher.
