I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on how to change my rotors and break pads on my 2002 accent? I have a friend changing them for me and he has never worked on a Korean car before. He was curious if they are different from any other cars. He wants to know if he needs a special tool or special instructions to do it.

This should help with the break pads, complete with pictures. Although it doesn't have instructions on how to change the rotors i'm sure it's pretty straight forward to do, remove replace.
And I hear accent brakes do not need to be bleeded after a pad change, so thats a bonus.

Accent Brake Pad Replacement

Good luck :)

Chnging rotors and brake pads on a hyundai is even easier than on most U.S. made cars. No special tools needed. Metric rather than SAE wrenches are required, of course. Don't understand why you would want/need to change the rotors. Hyndais use bonded brake pads, which never score the rotors, so unless they are cracked or damaged somehow, should not need replaced.

The rotors will need to be replaced if you mess them up like I did
Warped from heat.

Drives: Modified (180 b.h.p.) `95 Hyundai S-Coupe Turbo SE ....Sadly now sold & replaced with an `04 Alfa Romeo 156 2-litre Veloce! :-http://aol.photobox.co.uk/album/thumbnails.html?c_album=7089276&page=all

When you have replaced your pads & discs (which is extremely easy as the guys have said) protect the discs from warping as follows :-

When the brakes are hot (after a run through town etc.) & you come to traffic lights or a junction, do not sit waiting in the car with the footbrake applied.
This causes the surface of the disc (rotor) to cool at a different rate where the pad is in contact with it........this obviously leads to warping.......try to use the handbrake on these occasions.

Cheers,
Nick. :)
