Will leaving my ipod in my car during hot weather/freezing weather affect the ipod? Anyone have any experience with this?

apu,

I've personally left mine (accidentally) in the car's glove on a really hot/cold day and the Ipod worked fine. Never did it again though. Better safe than sorry buddy - it's probably best that you don't leave it in there. I'm quite sure the Ipod's operating temperature is not built as wide as a car interior's.

i would never leave it my car for the simple fact that it's easier for someone to steal it... but prolonged exposure to extreme heat or cold will affect the electronics. they have a specific operating temperature, and if it gets too far from the extreme high or low, it will fritz itself out over time.... i have actually lost electronics in the past due to this, so i dont chance it with a $250 iPod... plus, the LCD on the iPod can easily go bad in extreme temps....

just my 2¢

Can't decide what to do

i've accidentally left mine inside the glovebox of my previous ride (windstar) on a very cold winter day. it still worked, but it was VERY slow. after warming up a bit, it was back to normal. but i wouldn't suggest subjecting to extreme temperatures.

Any Electronics item that has an internal Battery is not supposed to be exposed to extreme Hot or Cold. It say it in my GPS Manual, and I'm sure its mentioned in your Ipod Manual. Does it get Hot in Texas?.

Typically, most of the damage will be done to the battery. Your IPod's battery life would get shortened drastically. In all honesty, not much would happen to the IPod itself. But either way, you would hate having to keep the IPod charging 24/7.

Mine actually stays in the center console as I have it directly wired into the HU. So far it has been fine through the cold weather.

I would suggest wrapping it up in some cloth or something like that and putting it in the glove box or under the seat where it is out of direct sunlight (and view). The cloth (i.e. a t shirt or towel) should insulate it sufficiently that it wont be overly affected. It would be somewhat similar to carrying the ipod in ones pocket while walking or running, in terms of relative temperature.

Hi all,

Just information, no opinion.

Keep my iPod in the glovebox in heat and cold (Sydney, Australia).

2 years +...

No issues with performance or battery.

Cheers,

Andrew

Get your windows tinted and keep that heat away lol.

Well someone would steal it, do not leave it where everybody can see it, leave it in the trunk.

I've accidently left mine in the glove box in the middle of summer a couple of times. It was sooo hot. The irony in it...my iPod transmitter literally fell apart and out in November, nothing is wrong with my iPod though. I'm getting a free transmitter because I called the company and told them half of the equipment is stuck in the car and won't come out.

When i left my ipod in my previous car ('64 mini), it would work fine, but the FM transmitter on it (airplay2) would put out shocking noise across the FM signal. The subwoofer would be kicking horribly. Even slightly warm, the transmitter just doesnt work.

But you wont have that problem. I agree with the guys above. Most damage will be done to the battery, as hard drives get hot on their own anyway (when in use)
