Hello,

I have done a search through the forums and found similar topics but nothing for my exact model and no one ever replies with what fixed their problem. I also checked the recommended site (Hmaservice.com) but it just said to replace the coil, which I've read is only the problem about 20% of the time.

I have a 1998 Accent with just barely over 100k miles.

It starts, idles, runs and drives perfect. No squeeky belts, no knocking from the engine, no smoke, ect. The problem arises when the engine has been idling for 20+ minutes or I have been driving for more than 10. The car shuts off and it is impossible to start. When I attempt to start it in this situation it turns over great but just sits there without starting.

I replaced the fuel filter and konw the fuel pump is in good order. Tested all the spark plugs and recently put on new spark plug wires (about a week ago). When I'm attempting to start it in the 'warm' state there is no spark. I did an electrical test on the camshaft posistion sensor and it is getting the 5 volts power it needs, but my repair manual says it should be pulsing 5 volts, which i cant seem to get it to do.

I also removed and inspected the coil for damage/leaks but it seems to be in good order.

My guess is that its either the coil, the camshaft posistion sensor, or the crankshaft posistion sensor.

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks

I had an indentical problem with my 01. It was the crankshaft position sensor. After throwing money at a new fuel pump and filter, I took it to the dealer who had it for 1 1/2 days just to diagnose the problem. The sensor was starting to go bad, meaning that it would "open up" when it got so hot and wouldn't close until it cooled. Usualy about 20 minutes on the hi-way blocking traffic was enough time. Best bet is have a dealer scan it when it has the problem.

Alright cool, I'm checking out an OBD 2 scanner today so hopefully that brings it up. We are thinking its the crankshaft posistion sensor as well.

Will at least post here if I get it fixed so people in the future can find it. I know I had a **** of a time finding an answer to this problem.

Hi,
I have a similar fault on my '97 1.3 Si, Does your car just cutout as you drive?
My fault is I can drive a any distance - in wet, damp or dry conditions. It does seem a little better in the summer months. I have replaces plugs, leads, can't find fuel filter - but I think if it was the filter I should experience erratic running/poor idle. I even had a new cat converter fitted as it was due for a change - but this has not cured the fault.
If it is the cam sensor where is it?
Can it be repaired or cleaned?
Is this a DIY job?
Sorry for the questions

Did you fix it huskythehusky?
I have the same problem in my '93 Scoupe (same engine G4EKN) and I'm at a loss, changed the cranck sensor but still no spark hot or cold. Where is the cam sensor? HMAservice takes me to a blank page and no further no matter what. HELP!

And half a year later i come back :P. It was the crankshaft position sensor. Worked like a charm as soon as i plugged it in.
