I have cloudy headlamps, they have been like that since I bought my car two years ago. I took one off, and I tried to take it apart, but found out that they were sealed tight. Long story short, I broke the seal, and now water gets in, even thought I tried to seal it with marine glue. From what I read, I have to replace them $150 to $200.

So, what causes the cloudiness? If I by new lamps, will they turn cloudy too?

I like the bananna

The protective layer has worn off the plastic and they are vulnerable to cloudiness and scratch easier. There are restore kits you can buy at Auto Zone or stores like it for around $15 and after you do that you can use Mcguires plast-x to keep em' clean. As for the crack you put in the seal, I'm not sure. To get those apart you have to "bake" your head lamps to soften the glue enough to seperate the lens from the housing. Perhaps if you heat the leaking one and let the glue reharden it will seal itself again. Not sure. Other than that i'dsay search ebay for a new one. You can find them cheap there. Good luck.
Here's a link on how to seperate the lamp. (step 2) If you like, search this site for a possible solution as it concentrates soully on 01-06 Elantra (and on the newer HD a little bit)

CLR

Bdiggy....pretty much summed it up....
you can use the products on the inside once you get it apart...take your time and be very careful when "baking" ,seperating, and resealing....dont rush it.

i have had similar issues with my sentras in the past and had great results.

Don't take it apart! Check this link out:

http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/thread/28360.aspx

I can vouch for this, I did it last Sunday. Wet sand (dip wetordry 1000 grit into water), spray headlights with water, keep em wet, sand headlights for at least 10 minutes. Then repeat with 2000 grit. Then polish them for 20 minutes a piece. I did this last Sunday and saved roughly $300 by not buying new headlights. If you have any questions.

^^That's great but the fog is apparently on the inside so the lamps do need to come apart.

Well, I got the headlamps apart, but many of the peicies connected to it started to melt. , so the headlamps didn't fit back perfectly, and the clips broke. Also, it turned out that the cloudiness was on the outside.

I sanded wit 1500 sand paper and used McGuires, if I could go back, I probably do it the Bakeslee reccomends. I sprayed painted the interior too.

If I had to do it over, I would have not have preheated my oven to 350 F, but 200 and make leave it in their longer. A hair dirver might do the trick too. The DIY article did not mention if the oven was preheated..

I tried another idea also, but it was real dumb  I tried cleaner my lights with paint thiner, but it dried out the headlamp and made it white, so now I am left needing to by two.
