My 07 Santa Fe has a dashboard that isn't angled as much as the Azera so there is no sun glare on it. Also, the blue lighting is bright enough to see the instrumentation even in extreme sun light.

Not so with the Azera. The pale green lighting doesn't seem to provide enough light to see the instrumentation in the middle of the dash very well, during very bright days. It's even worse if there is a litttle dust on the clear plastic.

I wish there was a way to improve the daytime lighting of the dash. I enjoy projects to improve our vehicles but not too sure how to solve this problem. Any ideas, anyone?

This is a design flaw of the Azera. Perhaps it doesn't get very sunny in Korea. :)

I have a 2007 Limited with Ultimate and I never have a problem seeing any of the instruments, day/night/bright sunlight/with sunglasses, etc. This includes the radio/AC, etc.
I thought I had a problem with the instruments once, but then realized I had turned the lights down very low when I cleaned the dash.

Bob,

My dash lights are turned up as far as they will go. I haven't compared my car to other Azeras yet but intend to do so in the near future.

Maybe there is something wrong with my dash lighting. As I said, it only affects the center of the dash where there is no hood shading the instrumentation.

I thought I saw somewhere (maybe www.koreanautoimports.com ) that there was an LED based dash lighting kit you could buy. Probably a pain in the azz to install but it might help with your problem. Dang AZ sun is a beeyotch.

I have to agree somewhat. In sunny weather I can see the radio and HVAC display fine w/o sunglasses but not with. The clock is useless with or w/o. I have to take off the sunglasses and shade the display with my hand.

I have the same issue with the center instruments. Perhaps some of it is my age and the fact that I also have cataracts developing in my eyes. We have lots of sun here in Texas where I live. I find reading the clock very difficult without shading it with my hand and often have trouble reading the radio dial too. The temperature controls on the AC/Heater are easier to see and read.

I like the shape of the dashboard, but, this does lead to the noted difficulty in seeing the center dash instruments. I never have trouble seeing the instrument cluster in front of the driver. My son's 2006 Sonata has the very same issue with the center instruments.

Probably the only solution is a redesign of the dashboard by Hundai engineering. If it had a steeper slope to it like the Santa Fe mentioned in another post, it probably would not exhibit this problem.

On our '07 Azera we did have the dealer add the tint to the side and rear windows. This does help considerably with comfort when on the road in bright sunshine. At least the person on the sunny side of the car does not roast or get sun burn! I did not notice any appreciable difference in viewing the clock, radio, AC/heat controls. As I have gotten older I notice that my eyes take longer to readjust to changing light conditions. It may be that what bothers my eyes may not present any problem to a younger person.

I am considering cataract surgery using the crystal lens method. It is claimed that it restores the eye's natural ability to focus on close or far objects for most people. I do not currently have any polarized sunglasses. I may want to give that a try.
