Hello, I am new here to these forums...

I am having a bit of trouble with the driver's side front window on my 1998 Accent hactchback... Whenever I try to roll it up (crank, not power), the window tilts forward (twords the engine) rather than backwards... This causes the window to slip out of the "moulding" or "guide" on the back part of the door (twords the trunk)... When this happens it takes a great amount of pressure to roll it up, and I often use my other hand to help pull it up as to not badly damage the regulator... I thought that the problem was the completely rusted out piece of metal in the door which holds the rubber "guide" in place for the back side of the window to slide into when it is rolled down... I went to a junk yard and was able to find a good one and I replaced the crappy one in my door... This did not solve the problem though, so I do not know what it could be as everything seems to be in good shape... Please post your ideas as to what could be wrong, thank you...

PS: Thanks to the people who posted how to get the crank off of the door... Last time I remember taking one of those off it was held on with a screw, not a "c" pin, LOL...

I have this same problem with my 96 Accent, I was told it is the window runners and they can be replaced but you might need to go to your local Hyundai dealer to get em might have to wait for them to order these parts like I am but they're reasonably priced (here that is).

The failure of these regulators is normally caused by corrosion of the wire sections. When they corrode, the wires expand and lose their flexibility and strength. The wires can then jump off their tracks on the wire reel and become snagged inside the housing or begin to disintegrate and become snagged inside the outer sheaths. This is when you hear the motor grinding or find the glass sticking part way open. Often the wire sections break completely at which point you may find you can't keep the window closed.
There is a repair kit which you can get off ebay, apparently the stainless steel wire in this kit will resist this process and retain its flexibility for much longer:-

let us know how you get on :57:

Hey, not sure if this post is too late, but I had the exact same problem.

There is this little vertical arm thing inside the door that pushes the window up and down. It has a grip that holds onto the glass at the bottom. A strong glue attaches the glass to the grip. The glue in mine was old and eventually it snapped off, so when i rolled up the window, the grip didn't hold onto the glass, and pushed it up sideways, towards the front end.

To fix this, the door must be taken apart. I can't remember exactly how I did it, but i'll try and recall lol.
Unscrew all the screws in the inside door panel. There should be two near the hinge, two in the arm rest and one in the door handle. The handle and the plastic around it is one piece, so that comes off with the plastic inside door panel. It was tricky figuring it out as things all connected to each other strangely.

Once it's all off you should see the arm thing. All you need is strong glue (I used araldite). First, scrape off the old glue with a knife or something, then glue the window back in the grip. Make sure you use lots of glue and it has plenty of time to set. I also re-lubed my window because it was very tight, probably what caused the older glue to break in the first place.

I hope that all made sense lol.
