Hi.

I would like to examine the tranny and replace both filters and ATF myself. As I have heard to replace the inner filter I must take the tranny down and apart. Is it true? Does anyone have experiences/recommendations?

l think your model being an earlier one has an external filter. look at the yop of your gearbox and see if there is a filter mounted directly on top of it pointing upwards (it's looks like an oil filter)

Yes, You are right... One is external filter (the easy one to replace) and the other one is inner filter (the harded one to replace). Are You saying that I dont have to change the inner filter at all? The thing is that I read tranny "intall/remove" manual and I really dont want to take the tranny down... as it seems to me a bit big job to take it as a hobby.

the inner filter isn't serviceable, the external one is all you need to change.

Well.. Today I went with this plan to my usual dealer and what came out? Yes there has 3 sensors change, but not a singel filter change (174000km).. :S Only recovered ATF what has been lost turing all these works (icluding solenoid change ATF?) Like talking to the wall, that the car shudders.. Im booked for next week, hope things brighten up for me!

For information, such ATF change and filter change and magnet cleaning does not give You any effect, waste of money. But all electrical stuff still seem to function fine. At least according to the hi-scan tool. It has to be mechanical fault. So its time for me to take the tranny down, because I cant drive with such car, shifting has got so jumpy, has big lag and very rought change between 2 and 3. Also from 2 to 1 engine rev go up before weak and noisy lockup.

Hi.

Does anyone have some information, where I could get a new tranny, or valve-body with the price not exceading with the cars price? I mean with a normal price.

The mechanic told me that discs and all the other stuff seems to be ok, so the issue must be about valve body.

Unfortunately, this XG25 is a rare model so my second question is: does Sonatas 1/99-12/02 automatic gearbox orig 2,4i 99 - 02 can replace XG25-s gearbox?

Hi!

Here is little more one with tranny troubles might want to read:

As I wrote above the discs and other mechanical parts was examined to be ok. But as You might know one cant just look into the torque converter, it must be cut apart to replace the locking disc and after this welded back together. So there was another expert willing to examine the torque converter for me. Fortunately or unfortunately the converter was just fine. So today I called back to the the tranny expert who taked apart the valve-body. He said he had found something not right in the valve-body, but more info coming soon.

The expert has never had to buy a new valve-body for the clients. It has been stucked solenoid, faulty solenoind or (f:pressure) sensor. Sometimes just valve-body cleaning has made it.

So I will tell more about the examination when I get some new info.
