Are the following typical of Hyundai dealer unethical, dishonest tactics?
Local Hyundai dealer’s city Sunday newspaper advertisement showed stock #, miles and price for used 2007 Hyundai Entourage. On Monday morning at dealership, dealer’s salesman stated to me that newspaper price was correct and that the van was still available. Salesman went and got the keys for us to test-drive it. Upon his return, he said that there was a woman in the showroom with the add for the van. The salesman said that he had previously driven this van over 300 miles to Cedar Point and it was really nice. I test drove the van, and agreed to purchase it for that newspaper price. As we were walking in the showroom, a "manager" pulls my salesman to the side and whispers to him and then goes away. The salesman then tells me the newspaper price is $4000 to $5000 to low. I reminded him that he had stated the newspaper price was correct and that I had said that I would buy the van (for that price). My request for a manager brought the “whisperer” back with claims that the price was $4000 higher than the newspaper published price and “that is just the price”.
Does anyone have any suggestions about I how I should proceed with this situation?
Note: I bought a brand new 2006 Hyundai Sonata SE last year and have been reasonably happy with it, but the incident described above seems to show clearly that the dealership has no ethics or desire to act responsibly.
