Hi,

Any clue why the transmission fluid would be brown in my 2004. I have a little over 35,000 miles and noticed yesterday that my A/T fluid is brown. Any clue?

Thanks in advance,

Pam

2 ideas:
1. it's burnt and needs to be replaced
2. someone put oil in your trans by mistake and needs to be flushed

Either way, get the trans serviced.

it is normal for the SP111 hyundai fluid to gradually turn brown during use although it's red when new. however your fluid is due to be changed

Drain it, drop the pan, and replace the filter ASAP. If the filter kit doesn't come with a gasket, use black RTV silicone. And I would suggest going with a synthetic fluid such as Amsoil Universal ATF which is SP III rated.

You can get it from a Amsoil Direct Dealer, I believe there are two of us on the forum.
