is not available anymore I guess he bought the last one. It is actually one of those vacuum cleaner hoses with a "carbon fiber" filter... heh :)

Hey how you all doing...

Well i've been bored all this time trying to look for a good CAI but ofcourse there is no such thing out there yet I.E. AEM intakes... so what if I take my Air box out and paint it with high heat engine enamel and get some heat reflecting tape and cover it with the tape... make it a little bit resistant to the car radiant heat that way keeping the air at outside temp instead of getting hot with the engine radiant heat? bah anyways sorry for my mispelling >.<

i think you would have more gains from removing the resonator from the intake piping that sits in the front of the wheel well (have to remove the fender liner to access it) to let some colder air in from there. (same basic area as the intake on Dogstars car positions the filter) the plastic intake is quite effective at not holding a lot of heat and heatsoaking.

as far as intake sizing the TB and MAF are 3.5" roughly, can't recall the size of the piping in the air filter lid, but still quite large, IIRC over 3"

Just took my KN filter to clean it (God that was dirty) and measured the MAF... the intake of it is 3".

...and another thing how do you expect to get better air flow with a closed in filter and "ridges" throughout the pipe!?

I'm still going to try wrapping that air box with some HRT, but I saw somewhere some ram air intakes for the sonata... ! oh yea I got it form a link someone posted on the azera forum... anyways I bet if I had the measurement of the intake hole I could bolt any intake... >.< God im bored, I should really focus on buying a Studie Grill, Real Lip and logos instead of trying to make this a ricer lol >.< btw Studie has even an exhaust system for the Sonata... too bad I can't understand korean and google wont translate their website heh >.<  :right:

What?! Studie has an exhaust system for the vehicle of my obsession?! Or are we just talking about tips to fit the bodykit?

To the best of my knowledge, the studie exhaust is nearly $1000 and only made for the 4 cylinder 2.0 liter model. It may or may not work on the 2.4, and definitely won't work on the V6.

But why would you bother, when you can go to ANY muffler shop and get a cat back made for around $500?????

So its just a conversion kit for the 4 cylinder? To make it from a single exhaust to a dual exhaust?

BTW: exchange rate KRW/USD = 10/1. Its been hanging at that for a while now, but the dollar used to be stronger.

I believe he is referring to this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...rksid=p3907.m32

Its somewhat generic for my taste. I am working on building one right now. I will post my results and pics

Resonator? Can you remove that resonator without removing the stock air system? It’s been a long time since I sat in a physics class, but I think that may be a Helmholtz resonator. The benefit of that resonator may be to help the torque curve. Removing it has the potential to hurt performance and mileage.

If I am correct (and I may be wrong on this one), when air is forced into a tube the pressure oscillates. Depending on the velocity of the airflow, that oscillation can create pulses that hurt the airflow. A Helmholtz resonator is often used by car engineers to counteract any resonant frequencies. They use it to fine-tune the shape of the intake tubing to maximize torque in a given rpm range. If you use the exact same OEM intake tubing but remove the resonator, it is possible you may hurt performance and get worse mileage.

yes you can remove it without touching the rest of the system, quite easily accessed once you remove the fender liner.

more often than not the resonators on cars are used to eliminate noise from the intake and aren't actually functional helmotz resonators. i know my subaru's intake uses a helmotz and thats one of the reasons i haven't done an intake, the subaru ECU is very sensitive to changes so i would end up with worse throttle response and a couple rich points in the RPM band from eliminating the resonator.
As far as i can tell the resonator on the sonata looks to be just there for noise control.

I took the resonator off and it definitely improved the throttle response. It was always my understanding that the resonator was there to dampen intake sounds or intake roar. This my intake resonator and the nice opening it left for more air flow.

As mentioned, I could be wrong on this one. It was just a concern. Similar to Supra Devil’s Subaru, all I know is that removing a true Hemholtz resonator can have adverse consequences. But in our Sonata’s case, if we can remove and replace this box (which may not be a Helmholtz), there seems to be no risk. Thank for the pictures Wymi.

And by the way, please don’t think I am a pot calling the kettle black. When I installed my SRI, I removed my box along with the rest of the stock intake plumbing from the manifold to the OEM air box. My car works very well. However my SRI is only 9 inches long, is relatively straight and has a much different airflow than the stock intake system.
