Hi peeps,

car is a k reg pony x2 GSI, 1.5 litre, which is injection

4 days ago i was sitting at some traffic lights and my car decided that it wasnt hapy to idle at just under the 1000 mark, and thought it was much better off at 4000 odd revs, i tried to pull away and it had no actual torque to move all that well, probably the clutch complaining i guess.

i moved into a parking area, i switched off the engine and left it a couple of minutes, then started it again. no problems so i carried on with my journey

yesterday the check engine light came on, and then went off shortly after, so i caried on driving. there was nothing special about it, just an average drive around town and just outside of it.

now today i just poped out and nothing was up, on the drive home on came the light, and this time didnt go out. so i pulled up, turned off the engine and then restarted, it was now off, so again i got underway, it came on again, i was stopped at traffic lights, and the light then went out, i pulled away and about 1 minute later on it came again, this time a loss of power response in the engine, and it smelt like it was running a little rich.

i got home parked up and while it was sitting at idle it started to vary through the revs between 1000 and 4000, not in big jumps but pretty smoothly.

is there anything i can try on this? how easy is it to read the dtc codes, i understand its just a case of connecting up a multimeter to the test socket on the ecu. and looking for pulses.

my gut instinct would be that either the oxygen sensor is playing up, the motor position sensor is on its way out, or it could be that the cat is nackered.
