Hi,

I've just had a problem with my Matrix and wondering if any of you might be able to shed some light on what's happened.

I'd just been driving for approximately 1/2 mile in a 20mph when i went into a 30 zone so i accelerated a little to bring up my speed, as I accelarated where it normaly changes into the next gear it didn't my revs went higher than normal and then suddenly then gear change with a bit of a jolt. I then came to a junction and stopped, pulled away and again the gears didn't change as normaluntil suddley clunking into 2nd, at this point the check engine light comes on. Fortunately I was about 500yds from home. I pulled into a space selected reverse and nothing. The gear wouldn't engage, if I changed into D it engages but not into R. It's dark at the moment so i did my best to have a quick look under the bonnet and check A/T Oil level which was fine. I tried one final time, the engine starts, the check engine ligth goes off but still no reverse.

I;ve checked throught the forum and found similar topics which seem to suggest it could be a linkage problem or a couple of sensors are playing up, could this be the case here?

I'm sorry if this is a bit long winded and any help or ideas is greatly apprciated.

Regards
Steve

Even with the problems (as seen on this forum) it should go into reverse. Unfortunately it sounds as though the gearbox has died unless your lucky. Refurbishment in the UK is uneconomical. Its a dealer only new box with this model. I have replaced a lot of these boxes in the past.

ya sounds like a gear box but check your fluids to make sure there proper cuz AT trannys depend on fluid pressure to change and engage gear, if those are ok then have a tech check out you torque conveter cuz that could do it to.

i hope i could help out

Hi, thanks for your replies.

I've took it to my local dealer who's answer was "everything is pointing to the gearbox" which to me is surpisingly vague.

I thought i cars this day and age if the warning light comes up, you plug in your fault reader device and up pops the fault, or am i being too dependant on technology.

One other thing that worried me a bit is when the dealer called me earlier he queired how lon my speed-o hadn't been working, to which I replied that it was working as far as I was aware up to the point i delivered to them, I know specifically that it was working 5 minutes before I arrived because i can remember checking my speed.

All being said and done it looks bad for my lovely little matrix, I just wish somebody could give me some reasoning why an automatic gearbox of just under 6years has gone in such a catastrophic way.

Cheers
Steve

P.S. Anybody have a spare Auto Gearbox they'd like to donate?
