They should have made it a competitor to a Mazda 3 Hatchback and called it the Elantra GT, touring is sort of like a bland Chrysler what do you guys think?

I'm pleased about the news. It is going to be a pretty sweet little car, I think. I absolutely love the i30. Who knows, it may replace my Accent sometime down the road once it's paid off.

I don't know that the Touring designation will be on the US model. The Europeans associate Touring with wagons. The Americans associate it with cushy, overstuffed Chryslers like you mentioned. I think we'll see the GT moniker here.

GT would be nice, I also want Hyundai to add performance parts to there cars like Mazdaspeed. Over here in Canada if you buy an Accent you can get Air Intake, Eibach springs new exhaust tips all from dealerships. But not for any other car

hyundai is working on the performance division... its a slow process though... they are starting with the accent and tiburon and will move to other models as soon as they see that people buy their stuff....

Well, I had to travel for business, so I left the Elantra with my wife for a few days (parked her car at the airport). When I got back, she told me how impressed she was with the fuel economy; that if she'd been driving her car ('03 Ford Escape) for that long, she would've had to go put gas in it already, but the Elantra still had over a half-tank.

She had told me once before that she would like to get a station wagon after the Escape. So I put 2 and 2 together, and told her that Hyundai was coming out with a station wagon version of the Elantra in the next year or two. Her response? "Well, you'd better not get a raise, then, or we'll be able to afford another car payment!" So she was enthusiastic about it. Imagine having two Elantras in the driveway! And, or course, if I could "tweak" both of them ,that would be even better!!

Just thought I'd share...

Video of Elantra Touring in US (though this one is still RHD). I sure hope they put the HD front-end on it and not the i30; I think the HD's front-end is one of it's best aesthetic features.

Enjoy the show!

They have built a custom Elantra Touring for SEMA...

Crazy! I kinda like it though. The metal grille made up of little Hyundai emblems is interesting to say the least. :P

I love it! I hope this really sparks some interest in building more modded Elantras.

Very slick little car. :) I'm glad they decided to bring it to North America.

Ugh. Again, I sure hope USDM models get the Elantra HD front end. And like was mentioned in the blog comments, I think the Touring would be a good model to debut the Sonata 2.4L I4 and 5-speed or 6-speed manumatic transmission in the Elantra package (make it an option on 2010 Elantra SEs) since the Touring will be more likely to carry heavier loads than the sedan. Oh, and go ahead and add the rear-suspension redesign that cclngthr came up with. :)
