I have a 2000 model year Hyundai H1 ,seven seater people carrierwith an alarming electrical problem. one day about a month ago ,after popping in to a shop for a minute i came out and tried to start it but it was dead!!!

i was told by the workshop (in Madrid Spain) that a relay had blown so we changed it, no luck.
The guy at the garage then spoke to my local Hyundai dealer who said the problem was the Ecu. we managed to get e second hand ecu (identical ref. & manufacturer) and fitted it. Still no joy , so the local garage then sent the car to the official Hyundai dealers for them to sort it out.
They said that the imobiliser had packed up which had damaged the original ecuhence the original problem.
They then fitted a new imobiliser together with the new(secondhand in working condition) ecu i got from the junkyard.
It was then that the fun started!!!
They said that the new imobiliser didnīt recognise the ecu, or the ecu didnīt recognise the inmobiliser as the ecu had the info and codes of the car from the junkyard still in it and it is impossible to erase the old ecuīs information without having its key and imobiliser (from the junkyard car)

Is this correct?
Is it not possible to just change ,say the ecu, with a second hand one and erase the old codes and stufffrom the old one with the dealers official Hyundai diagnostic stuff and enter all the new codes so it communicates with the master key and imobiliser and will start.
are they pulling a fast one to the tune of 2000 plus dollars!!!!!
I would love to here from someone in the know as i am sure i am being ripped off here by all this tech talk from my local friendly"stealer"
Cheers from Sunny Spain
